Here we go then, the ride starts here π
From bbc:
President-elect Donald Trump says the US will quit the Trans-Pacific Partnership trade deal on his first day in the White House. He made the announcement in a video message outlining what he intends to do first when he takes office in January. The TPP trade deal was signed by 12 countries which together cover 40% of the world's economy. The Republican also pledged to reduce "job-killing restrictions" on coal production and stop visa abuses.

However the TTP seems to be quite unpopular. I don't profess to understand why, but it is a massive and complex thing.

Well how much glenfiddich or dyed salmon does sturgeon flog to the yanks?
Come to think of it, didn't the Scottish stitch him up over his golf course or summat? Bad idea, what with him having buttons to push and all. π

The TPP, Nick, is more of a corporate rights agreement than it is a trade agreement. Under the TPP, any corporation can sue any government if that government passes any laws that might result in a decrease of trade or profits. So, for example, if the US enacts environmental laws that end up decreasing Acme Widgets International profits because AWI has to quit polluting our air, AWI can sue the US in one of the tribunals. The suits don't take place in government courts, they take place in tribunals that consist of people appointed by the corporations to hear such matters.

Yes that's the kind of thing I was thinking of. So is the TPP generally disliked by the American electorate?

I mean he's scottish, not left wing and a billionaire right up your street. No he was very very unpopular round here, with his Menie estate golf club just a few miles away. Lots of bully boy tactics to get his way in terms of evicting the local residents (which ultimately were largely unsuccessful). So now when Trump comes to town, the locals put up Mexican flags just to piss him off! it was funny to see that at the outset, Alex Salmond was right up his arse but then they fell out over offshore wind farms, trump sued them endlessly to get it stopped because he didn't want any offshore wind farms in his back yard, but ultimately lost and is now sulking. this kind of thing. There's lots more on the net. uk.businessinsider.com/donald-trump-bullied-a-90-year-old-woman-over-scottish-golf-course-2015-6

Anyway I am a supporter of capitalism. So are you, you perhaps just don't realise it. What is the alternative? Just about the only country where capitalism isn't in operation is North Korea. Fancy going to live there, do you? Everywhere else that tried it, failed miserably, eg Cambodia's killing fields, China's Mao era, Russia's Stalinist era etc etc.

Money makes the world go around... Actaully capitalism (or greed) is speeding up the end of humanity. I'm sure the world will continue going around though. Happy Christmas.
