Point of order Phil, SSA for the Great Ouse covers from Bedford to Earith. Locks are reversed as on the Nene.
the Old Bedford sluice deals with some of the fluvial flow into the tidal section between Brownhills Staunch and Hermitage lock into the levels,The Old West and everything downstream Denver complex does the rest.

SSA for the Nene now lifted.
We may be back in by Easter all things being equal. Fingers crossed for another good year like last year, I think we may have a couple more SSA'S between now and the end of April though.

Fucked again! Sunday, 27 May, 2018 21:42 Click to view full HTML IMPORTANT INFORMATION. This is a boating advice message from the Environment Agency. STRONG STREAM ADVICE is in force: River Advice for Boaters on the River Nene. This River Advice for Boaters is: River Nene between Northampton and Peterborough for the purpose of navigation. ------------------------------------------------------- Locks along the river may be closed to navigation. The Environment Agency strongly advises against attempting to navigate on the River. River flows are above normal, too fast for safe manoeuvring and headroom at some sites will be restricted. Boats should be moored properly to accommodate changing river levels. In an emergency, please contact the Environment Agency on 0800 80 70 60. To check the latest information for your area ------------------------------------------------------- * Visit GOV.UK to see the current flood warnings, view river and sea levels or check the 5-day flood risk forecast: flood-warning-information.service.gov.uk * Or call Floodline on 0345 988 1188 using quickdial code: 032112. * Follow us on Twitter (@envagency) and Facebook.

It's the River Bleedin' Nene, not the Ohio or Mississippi or Amazon. Just go for it! It's a piddling little stream.

You know the Nene well then Not really a navigable river more a sometimes navigable flood control system which doesn't always work. Far Cotton was under water last night that water will be on its way down to us . Anyway thought Gazza was on the Middle Level on his way to the Gt Ouse.

Bloody glad of that too!

"It's not very sensible to take narrowboats out in Strong Stream Advice as they have neither the power nor the manoeuvrability to keep out of deep doo doo!"

These are just scare stories to keep the shiny narrowboat brigade away from the secret delights of the swamps.

Until you're heading downstream to Fotheringhay Bridge, and realise it's a bit lower than when you came upstream ... It doesn't help it's on a bend. I've seen people on narrow boats holding lumps of masonry aloft like a bloody trophy after walloping the bridge coming downstream! It's claimed many a cruiser canopy/ windscreen when they have been rashly left up. I never go through it with the screen up, the screen is 52 years old and has escaped being ruined at Potter Heigham in it's former life, seems a shame to turn it into firewood and a 1000 piece glass jigsaw at Fotheringhay just for the sake of saving a few minutes work.

We just left a neat groove along the underside of the bridge. I got the tiller pin out in time ...
