Leak

Ok, suggestions please.
My boat is filling with water, it takes 6-8 weeks before I have to get the manual pump out and burn sufficient calories to justify eating lots of chocolate so I am reasonably sure the hull is still ok. My suspicion is a problem with the shower as the problem started at around the same time that my youngest decided daily showers were essential.
Now, the biggest problem is that it is a wet room and not a shower cubicle so finding the leak is going to be a major job (why didn't anyone warn me about this - the room looks soooooooo lovely but I have gone right off it now). Would you recommend sending youngest off to stay with friends for a few weeks, ripping up wet room floor to try to sort it out, or get an auto bilge pump put in the lowest place and forget about it? I am not keen on sending child off alone right now but I am also not overly keen on water inside boat.
Please feel free to offer to pop over and make the problem disappear - I'm not proud lol

I have an auto bilge pump in the stern of my cabin area already, If it starts going off I know I have a problem. 12 volt water pumps seem to be prone to leaking so have a look at that as well you never know, failing that drop son over side daily to clean sure it will work lol

LOL, I have suggested a dunk in the canal daily I will check the water pump, it would be nice if it was something reasonably simple to sort out. So of course it will be a leaking wet room cos that is how live works............lol I think an auto bilge pump will have to be a solution for now, one day I will get the floor up but it is difficult when someone else is living there. thanks Peterboat

You really don't want to go the bilge pump method (although you really ought to have one installed anyway) as anything else than a really really short term answer. You do not want water in your bilge ...... boats can rust away from the inside even easier than from the outside because the inside is rarely as well protected by paint. On top of that damp and resulting condensation is a nightmare route to much more work in the long run.
Check your pump, check the drain in the wet room and see if it is properly sealed to the floor. Check all other waste pipes as it is easy to concentrate too much on your first ideas and not keep an open mind.
Does the pump cycle even when no taps are on ? that can indicate a leak on the pressurised side of the pump (output) but just because it doesn't cycle won't exclude leaks from the pump body or the pipework to the pump.
Good luck, small leaks can sometimes be a right bugger to find

It must be the season for leaks...mines here in Horror House(where else?)... The rook leak being repaired however under tiles a quirky mess..I haven't had ago this time In bathroom this am I noticed sodden patch ...on delving I discover that the pressure relief control thingamajig is dripping loads through somewhere it shouldn't oughta ..had it fitted as pressure coming into house 8.5 and it broke the new shower twice... so all water now off and I'm really fed up....this was all newly done..cannot find any receipts cos I dimly remember drawer I kept them in had damp issue and they turned to mush..
I hope your leak is sorted soon..I think mine is going t be another replacement which will last not long at all. I don't know why the pressure coming in is so dammed high.

Good luck, small leaks can sometimes be a right bugger to find Thanks John, The bilge pump would be a temporary solution as I really am not happy with water inside the boat. We have checked everything we can think of, even leaving pots under kitchen pipes to see if any thing is leaking and the wet room is the last thing we can think of. The pump doesn't come on unless water is running and the area around it is completely dry. It is the damp and condensation that first alerted us to the problem and is something we are struggling to keep on top of. I will check the drain in the wet room, strangely enough I hadn't thought of that, I will tick that one off of the list. I suspect that we will have to do the temporary pump solution to give my youngest time to get confident enough not to be near me and go and have a nice holiday with friends.

Is it soapy? Could it be condensation? Lots of showers, drying hair, drying clothes?

And most water pumps always seem to leak eventually.

... Snip ... I suspect that we will have to do the temporary pump solution to give my youngest time to get confident enough not to be near me and go and have a nice holiday with friends. Would it be easier to introduce your youngest to 'strip washes' ? Not easy I know, but you can get yourself just as clean using a couple of buckets. If everyone did this at least you might be able to rule out a leak in the wet room.

"Why do leaks happen when the weather gets cold"
Cold makes things (like water pipes) contract and heat makes things expand. This is why the days are shorter in Winter and longer in Summer.

Is it soapy?Could it be condensation? Lots of showers, drying hair, drying clothes? This is a very good question. If it is soapy, it's gotta be the shower drain

It might be stating the obvious, but have you looked to see if water is being ejected from the side of the boat when the shower pump is running?
Also, are you sure you would have to rip the floor up to get to the pump? It's a pretty bad fit out if you can't get quick and easy access to it.

If you have a laptop PC or access to one then there are USB LED inspection cameras which could be poked through holes into the bilge to check it out: www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_sacat=0&LH_PrefLoc=1&_nkw=usb+borescope+cameraETA: looks like some work with a phone though it ma need to be a fairly decent spec one with 'OTG' Tying it to a length of steel fencing wire might help manipulate it around. Maybe try turning the shower waste pump off, fill the plughole full of water and wait and see if the water goes down, if it keeps doing so then a leak may be present in the waste piping.
