MJG, Forgive me, but you seem to be spoiling for a fight from your first post in this thread. I had considered asking to whom your first post was aimed but thought discretion was the better part of valor. Have you had a bad day? Rog It was a general comment. And no not 'spoiling for a fight' just an observation. But it was triggered by Kris' 'Intellectual masturbation' comment aimed at Nick. I'm pleased to hear that, for what that's worth. I also thought it odd for Kris to ask a question, yet take a pop at someone who bothers to answer. But I put it down to 'history' and decided to let it go. Maybe I should have asked Kris if he was having a bad day too Rog

Hopefully we'll set off again tomorrow if the ice clears. I feel a bit guilty about ice breaking now after talking to the guy in the next boat. He worries about the stress it puts on other people's boats. He may have a point, especially when the ice is thick.

Crikey. A mate is moored around Onley on the GU, and tells me there's no ice there.
Ricco on the Mac said he had about 6mm.
Should all clear tonight as the forecast suggests a minimum of 7 degrees.

Rog Just checked the forecast for here. It's freezing until about 8am and only gets up to 5 deg by lunchtime. Perhaps I should start a new thread but where do the ducks, moorhen and swans go? It's a bit like the 'why don't you see baby pidgeons' mystery...

Hence the interlectual masturbation comment. He was just trying to prove his interlect superior masturbating. As for martins comment, I'm quite used to Martin trolling when he's bored, but he got what he wanted from bassplayer.

Kris, I am not sure how to say this nicely so apologies if it sound bad etc it is not meant to be. People sit around the system grumbling about what CRT is doing with regards to the canal system, selling of bits here and there, denuding the canal of their investments that could be used to provide to money to keep them going. For heavens sake stop grumbling all of you and start to organise union style with one objective to stop CRT from wasting funds and selling off the canal's assets. If you don't in less than 12/24 months it will be too late, so get off your arses and get campaigning and joining up. It is going to cost both in time, money, stress and shoe leather. Now all of you get together find others who agree with you and pull together cut out the bickering, I know it is fun on the WWW but that will not save what you love and treasure the canals, their life and history. If you can between you get 500 people together and form a proper organisation properly set up with the aims mentioned above within the next six months I will contribute £500. I am sure that NN could be persuaded to put his hand in his pocket as could a lot of others.

I am sure that NN could be persuaded to put his hand in his pocket as could a lot of others. In theory organisations like NABO and the IWA should be looking after those interests. The NBTA have a different cause but seem fairly effective. I think most people only become active when they become personally affected. It also depends how much interest younger people have in the inland waterways. It could be that they are more interested in usimg them as a home than cruising. I am pleased that CRT still take an interest in maintaining the infrastructure enough to keep the network open. But if parts become shut down due to development or lack of maintenance I would want to get involved. I don't know where your 12/24 month estimate came from but I heard similar estimates banded around 5 years ago yet we are still going. I'm going to try to enjoy. CC'ing while I can. There is the old saying 'use it or lose it'!

Kris, I am not sure how to say this nicely so apologies if it sound bad etc it is not meant to be. it doesn't sound bad, it just makes you sound very judgemental. As you have no idea what else myself or any of the other posters to the thread have done are doing about current situation on the waterways.

Lol. Oops, now I'm being judgemental...
