Four years ago, no one had heard of them - not by that name; it is not just you. They were not the 'new' waterways authority until the middle of 2012. Well, OK, some knew of them 4 and a half years ago, and did their best to stop or slow the transition, but there is only a few months in it.

Could not the CRT management be replaced by cheap East European labour? I'm sure many Poles, Lithuanians and Estonians are queueing up to do their job more efficiently? It would save us all a heck of a lot of money. East Europeans would do it for a fraction of the current costs. Hurry for Multiculturalism!

Four years ago I hadn't even heard of CRT - apart from an article in Private Eye - and now I have read a great deal about them. It's all so complicated sometimes. Sometimes I agree with CRT's attitude and actions, other times they certainly seem to be an organisation to be held in suspicion. The salaries of the top management are disgusting. Total remuneration packages are,in the main, below BW levels. Most BW directors enjoyed a higher basic, bonuses up to 30% on basic and massive pensions. Before he was elected, Cameron condemned what he called the fat cats. He took no action when elected. Some of the figures can be found at - www.narrowboatworld.com/index.php/news-flash/4691-gravy-train-rolls-onOf the BW directors that transferred, only Stuart Mills is left. The other eight (I think it is now eight) are all appointments that have taken place over the last two or three years.

Very old news, but worth ploughing through - and the story is far from finished. It is Geoff Mayers' account of how his boat 'Pearl' ended up seized and sunk despite a court directive to grant a licence if Geoff obtained a home mooring. He did just that, but didn't get the licence despite asking, and was pounced on the moment he left the mooring to moor on the towpath near a hospital he needed to visit at the time.

Mr Mills was/is in a uniquely profitable position as Head of Property, with directorships in other companies existing only to develop the land parcels he facilitated getting registered to BW regardless of any right to title.

In theory they ought to be brilliant ....... many of us had high hopes when it was formed. .......the results however ...... shall we say have been variable i agree with this completely John, I thought I'd give Crt ago and see if they Where going to be better than British waterways. In fact they had a chance to be better, but in reality they've shown themselves to be worse.

Perter Palmer (enforcement supervisor) is a candidate for CaRT's top ten liars, after he attempted to misrepresent the court order on Tadworth as a lifetime licence ban. Jackie Lewis supported this, in my opinion, knowing that it was illegal, she could also be on parapet.

I have sometimes thought that when I get to the age of 80 or 85, there's not much life left, and then it would be time to start getting really naughty and dealing with those who have upset me during my life, and those that generally annoy me. 30 years to go....

On the other hand, having watched this video, I agree with this comment added below the clip and am on CRT's side here: "Alan Baxter.....you are a pratt ........most boat companies could build a boat from scratch in 6 months you could certainly replace a full engine and electrical system in 6 days or less !!!!!!!! get it moving you idiot.." Mr Baxter could spend many years repairing his engine in a marina or boatyard. Bizarre, what you can find on the Internet! Alan Baxter is not a boat building company is he ? So the analogy doesnt work. What is reasonable is dependent on the circumstances, does the law say you cannot do a major repair on the towpath, or only minor repairs ? I know soneone with a 6 month authorised overstay for medical reasons, so there is no time limit as such on overstaying it just depends on the circumstances. CRT have cunningly got around the law which does not give them the power to decide what is a reasonal reason to overstay by classing either " authorised" or "unauthorised" overstay on your sightings record, if you have the latter, which has been arbitrarilly decided by an EO, exacly what the legislation sought to prevent, then CRT can decide you didnt satisfy them you were bona fide constantly cruising, and you loose your CC'ing licence.

Six months to stop beside the towpath for repairing an engine sounds iffy to me. If it's hopeless, pull it out and chuck a new one in. What would the Police say if it took me 6 months to fix a puncture on the hard shoulder of the M25?
