You can't just claim starting a topic, you've got to put something in it.

That's a bit exspensive I reckon, for saying it doesn't even say if it's a runner.

True. Would definitely want to be on good running order for that money.
I notice someone is asking £18k for a 2L2 !!
I know its a very nice narrow boat engine but £18k seems slightly mental

The 2L2 has been for sale for a while, It hasn't sold so I would say lots of people think it's too exspensive.

I've always been intrigued by the idea of a wood fired steam engine belted to an alternator to charge the batteries.
Its the principle of free fuel (the wood) that appeals.
I seem to remember Preston services had a small steam driven generator a while ago. Not sure if you could just put wood in it though.
Steam engines do seem to me to be overly complicated.

Better off going for a Sterling engine, high pressure steam is potentially very dangerous, and requires constant oversight, and maintainance. I dont think you can buy an off the shelf Sterling engine though, so you're scuppered there.

They tried that on VIC32 , albeit coal fired. It was described as a good way of converting a lot of steam into not a lot of electricity. OTOH, steam generators were used to power clandestine radios during WW2.

I expect the best way to get power from wood is to strap a water cooler thermoelectric generator panel to the back of the fire.
