Here you are Kris, fresh out the crimper! 35 mm2 battery interlink, I gave away the last set I made to a friend in need. I thought id take a pic before I put the heat shrink on. Looks to me like the die you used was one size too small. The crimp shouldn't have 'ears' like that.

Give that man a coconut Yes, you are right, the 35mm die is a little slack, the 25mm die a little tight, but in the grand scheme of things it ain't an issue, especially when there is a bit of heat shrink over it! Warts and all baby, warts and all

It was actually Pete's link in another thread about how to do crimps properly that put the 'ears' thing fresh in my mind.

Gazza's good with metal. I'm sure he could make some 30mm dies I'd buy a pair.

The problem seems to be the lugs themselves, I have found some from one supplier are perfect, the same size from another have "ears". As Gazza says 'aint a problem a couple of strokes with a file and all is well

Before all this stuff became as cheap as it is a made an indent crimper out of a nut splitter, it was effective if a little crude. The crimp wouldn't fail but you'd get no prizes for neatness, style and execution!

I crimped some Anderson connector lugs using bolt cutters opened up a bit so they didn't go right through. Not on the barge it was for an electric outboard on my dinghy so non-critical. Worked pretty well to be fair

To avoid the ears using those crimp tools I pump the tool until the ears just start to form, then release the pressure and turn through one flat then complete the crimp. Fiddly, but it does work. I also find that the dies are a bit big and work better with one size down, but best you stop pumping when the crimp is formed rather than over crimping.

No I didn't actually ...... I just went and got it out of it's case. On the head there is something written which appears to be in German but is mostly unreadable. However on the inner edge of the handle it is clearly marked "Knipex" made in GermanyThe Chinese must have had that handle made in Germany for them then
Peter.
TEE! HEE! Nice one.
