I'm off to spend a week with my girlfriend on Saturday and although I love boat living, the one thing I am really looking forward to is having a bath as opposed to a shower.
Everything else- emptying the toilet cassette, restrictive availability of electricity, lugging supplies on and off the boat, smelling of coal smoke etc I have absolutely no problem with, but a good long soak in the bath is the one thing I miss about house life...

I'm the same. I prefer a bath, my missus prefers a shower. Ironically the shower on my boat is better than hers and the bath in her house is better than the sit up bath on the boat. (yes, I have a bath on my narrowboat!).

Neighbours and their kids/animals/ noise, door to door salesmen, Jehova's witnesses. free fekkin papers, car doors slamming, not being able to see the stars because of street lights. The feeling of being surrounded by bloody people. .......... but apart from that ...... nil, nada, zero, zilch !!!

Yes, that's one thing I miss about England, laying in a bath with an Ordnance Survey 1:50 000 map in me mitts.
If we buy a longer boat in future, we will miss Saturday evening saunas. Unless we can get one built into the boat! I'm sure it's possible.

Just shut the windows and doors, chuck half a bag of coal into the stove with the bottom door open and half an hour later you've got a sauna. For a true sauna experience just jump into the canal when the heat gets unbearable.

Being able to change the duvet cover with space all around it. It's a nightmare on the boat.

I don't live on a boat. However, I've lived in a flat for 10 years.
What I miss is totally different to all of you and one I am jealous of all of you.
I miss just walking out of the door and having outside space. Some where to sit and have a bbq. I also am upset that the kids can't just run around out doors.
Eta. When I am on a boat me and the kids live outside pretty much just being inside to sleep.

I have the best of both worlds...still have the house, but since retirement have spent loads more time on the boat.Planning on spending more time boating, but will keep the bricks & mortar as there will come a time when we will be too old to enjoy the boat.Hopefully, that is a lonnnng way off.

The feeling of being surrounded by bloody people. .......... but apart from that ...... nil, nada, zero, zilch !!! Exactly this. When we have to leave the boat, weddings, funerals etc, we are always pleased to get back to the boat. I hate houses.
