The Trump card. It doesn't excuse Israel and its policies. In my lifetime, I've never seen Israel at peace. I've always considered Israel to be a warmongering nation. Their ignorance, selfishness and greed seems to have no moral boundaries. But I think you have to be careful to distinguish between the face of Israel as presented by their politicians and the media, and the face of the actual people most of which are perfectly pleasant and in fact more so than the average Brit. Tel Aviv is a great place to visit for its libertarian attitude, Jerusalem for its condensed "bible in a few square miles" and cultural /racial/religious mix etc. Yes you can condemn the people since it is they who choose their politicians, but perhaps we should consider our own politicians first! I lived within a Jewish community for 15 years. My stepdaughter married into a Jewish family. I think I'm pretty well qualified to form an opinion. Thanks anyway.

Why don't you start a thread about yourself, and get it all out. Then I can choose whether or not I want to read your self biography. 😊

No, it seems you started the thread just to air your personal view whilst not being interested in anyone else's.

I noted your usual condescending remarks nick, and addressed them accordingly. 😊 I'm interested on anyones views regarding the subject, but not at all interested in Peters 3.8 dick extensions.

I have 1/4 jewish blood.
My great grandfather was from a family that could trace their history back to Portugal, from where they were ejected, then they lived in Germany until they left in 1871, to set up a wool and textile trading business in Leeds. My grandfather's was the first generation to properly integrate into the community where they lived, intermarry and become tolerant of other faiths.
In mediaeval times Jews, who were the prinicpal bankers, were deported from Britain in hard times.
Clearly the jews, as a race, have done a lot to alienate themselves over the millenia. As usual the mere existence of a religion whose followers consider themselves exclusive and special gives rise to hatred and division.
My Christmas message to the world - forget any fundamentalist beliefs (which are always extreme and damaging), whether they be Christian, Jewish, Islamic or whatever; instead integrate and just be at one with your neighbours and strangers alike.

I find myself very torn about Israel. I thought the operation at Entebbe to rescue their hostages in 76 was brilliant. I like the way they handle their state and aircraft security but, increasingly over the last few years, I am starting to think that they play on their holocaust history a lot when they want to elicit sympathy for what they are doing in the world. They have massive influence in the US normally which is why there is outrage about the US abstention in the UN re the Israeli settlements. Very difficult to come to a firm decision on what to think about Israel presently IMO. Roger

Yes that is the only thing wrong with Christmas, people have to bring religion into it! As you say, religion is generally divisive, isolationist, and used as a justification for extreme behaviour.

That would probably explain it, I bet they would have keyed the fuck out of it if it was British Racing Green.

I'm neutral as far as 'Jews' are concerned. Those I have met have been pleasant. I suspect that wherever Jews turn up they bring prosperity and this annoys the local populace. King Edward 1st of England was very cruel to England's Jews and ordered them to leave the land; accused them of skimming the edges off gold coins of the realm. My own interpretation of the current situation is that whenever the so-called Palestinians have a break from throwing stones and lobbing the odd rocket and the lull could turn into a peace of sorts, Israel has to go and prod them with a stick again.
