The whole thing was a massive insurance fraud, the Titanic's nameplates were changed shortly before she set sail, this was the vessel which hit the iceberg and sank. can I use the Tomsk word ? ................ TWAT !!

I like going on the Woolwich Free Ferry ax a pedestrian. They have lovely big wooden benches downstairs and a couple of 500bhp 7-cylinder Mirrlees National diesel engines turning large Voith Schneider cycloidal propeller systems. Difficult to appreciate how cool it is sitting in a car on deck.
Sadly there is no viewing window for the engines but the sound is quite impressive.

I hate ferries.
I hate sitting in a cool car on deck - I always switch the A/C off and open the windows.

I often used the Woolwich Ferry in the past ....... can't have been on it for best part of 20 years.
As a Kid I remember using the Tilbury Ferry in my uncle's car when we were going on a family holiday. You can still see the car ferry landing and the iron bridge ashore on the South bank. It's just upstream from where the "Pocahontas" docks now (The Tilbury side still uses the original landing ..... it always seems odd to have a car park on a floating pontoon !!!)
I have always loved going on Ferries, it always brings back the feelings of anticipation and adventure I remember as a kid ...... bridges ? .... Pah !!!

Bunker fires were not that unusual in late 19th and early 20th centuries. and emptying the bunker into the boiler fires was not an unknown way of dealing with it. If a weakened bulkhead gave way after the collision it was just one more bit of bad luck to add to a very long list. Personally I reckon the Titanic sank because she had a Jonah on board (John Priest) Quite common as you say

The only ferry I have used in a car is Reedham. www.reedhamferry.co.uk/

Your not the only one We crossed the channel Dunkerque to Dover a couple of years ago on some old heap of crap DFDS ferry and it was fairly rude weather which did not help. My elder daughter left some used food on the ferry which had come back out of her mouth (she was 4 and a half at the time). When we finally got back in the car and I began to drive off the ferry she said very confidently "I am never going on a ferry again. Never!" Eurotunnel is her favoured route.
