Leaders of the challenger just about crossing the Rochdale Canal. Where were these people when the Rochdale Canal needed clearing of the landslip last Christmas to Autumn? Not sure. Some of them were very involved in helping out during the floods though.

Sorry for resurrecting an old thread... Pavel Paloncy is currently attempting to break the Fastest Known Time for the Pennine Way and is currently ahead of schedule. I'll let you know if he breaks the record. New challenge for Patty maybe... That'll be next year sorted then.....

It's a good one, no need to be fit when you start because you will be by the time you finish.

I hope they don't wear the Pennine Way paths out before I get there! Alf Wainwright would have shaken his head at this.

Thats the trouble with opening up our countryside..but it's there for us all to enjoy and if we do not run/walk etc then 'farmers/landowners' stop Joe Public... Joking aside..I'd love to walk the Pennine Way...I like to walk..not this tortuous get fit regime...well tortuous in my eyes....with hatred of all things lycra..I did try putting on the gear to see if 'putting on the top hat' so as to speak made any difference to mentally kicking myself to speed up....answer to that is a no!.. I decided aim for 15 minute mile and I'm now going gym daily....early to get it over with....I do feel fitter..sort of. If if were a dance challenge..rock n roll or waltzing my way around somewhere I'd be there big smile on my face........little sis would be no where to be seen....she hates dance.

If if were a dance challenge..rock n roll or waltzing my way around somewhere I'd be there big smile on my face........little sis would be no where to be seen....she hates dance. I started last year pretty unwell, had an op, lay around for a month then started walking. 2 miles, 4 miles, 6 miles, then 6 miles twice a day with the odd day off. I was feeling pretty good by then so I went camping in Hayfield and walked up Kinder Scout. Bejezus I thought I would have a heart attack! 6 miles round my route that day. Next fay I did it again, slightly better, had the next day off. But I carried on and had another 3 days up and down and around Kinder. It's my favourite place. By the end of the week I was jogging along the tops and jogging down the rocks like a mountain goat and had doubled the route to 12 miiles. At the start I could meet fingers and thumbs (two hands, not that skinny!) around my calf muscles, by the end there was a 2" gap. Muscle memory is a wonderful thing but it took some proper hard walking to get them working. That's why I would say just go for it. I did it in my early 20's and we practiced by drinking, smoking and jogging home from the pub. It took us 10 days to cover the first 50 miles but only another 10 for the last 230. We carried everything and wild camped the whole way though I would YH and B&B now I'm more cronky.

Carrying stuff my problem as I have painful neck...my own fault chiselling up the floors here and lugging all the sand/gravel/compost etc has knackered my neck and shoulders. Maybe could do YH or B and B and minimalistic gear.

Anyone else following this years race. Weather brutal at the moment and set to get worse - true backbone stuff.

I once completed two marathons in one day.
Of course, they're called Snickers now.

I've not booked any challenges this year....its an expensive hobby..not just the fee but often b and b, transport there etc... Anyroads Ive got the Worms Head and few rocky hills around thats more than enough.. I only really went with little sis, it was bit stressful and as she's still ignoring me I cannot see any more mega runs occurring...if I decide I want to ...I'm gonna just have a go at little local ones.
However good luck to all those who are tackling this challenge...
