One of my favourites and have watched it mant times allthough the wife doesnt get it. If you enjoyed Das Boot, it's well worth hunting out the full length uncut DVD. It has a running time of nearly six hours so it takes a couple of sessions to watch, but there is a lot more plot development than in the standard two-hour film or the three-hour Director's Cut. www.amazon.co.uk/Das-Boot-Mini-Uncut-Version/dp/B0001NIYUOThanks for the link. I remember watching the series on tv back in the 80's and, at times, could practically smell the fear. It was that real.

Better films than what The Fossils are offering: Trains, Planes & Automobiles (Steve Martin, John Candy)(1987) Guest House Paradiso (Rik Mayall, Adrian Edmonson)(1999) Matchstick Men (Nicholas Cage, Alison Lohman)(2003) To Kill a Mockingbird (Gregory Peck, Mary Badham)(1962) Falling in Love (Robertt De Niro, Meryl Streep)(1984) Midnight Run (Robert De Niro, Charles Grodin)(1988) Then of course there's Inception (2010), The Matrix (1999+), Lord of the Rings (2001+) and How he Grinch Stole Christmas (2000).

And last thing from me today:
"This Bernstein score is a character in this movie unto itself. I can not imagine watching the film without listening to it. You could no more do without Boo or Jem or Atticus or Scout that do without that music. I grew up in Georgia and if you want to know what a summer's day, from dawn to dusk in the South is like, listen to this."

I was told Id enjoy Game of thrones so I managed to get the box set of series 2 from a charity shop...now all I need is....Series 1 Ive got some of my dads box sets..John Wayne and others..not that Ive watched them, in fact I don't really watch much at all. Ive got all the GOT series, I can send you series 1 if you promise faithfully to return. Then if you've still enjoyed it after your series 2 I can send the others. It is pretty amazing! Thanks I would like to take up that offer once all finally sorted here and I have time to sit and watch.....and yes of course I would return ..thats very kind.. My youngest tells me its right up my street. I have watched Matrix and Inception..but not a lot more as I haven't really had time or inclination whilst so much here to be done...but I am so nearly there.

Just out of interest, has anyone read the Game of Thrones books please?
I've been looking out for the first book, but so far have only seen a box set. I'm reluctant to pay for a box set until I've tried the first one to see if it's my sort of thing.
Not really into watching, I like to read.
To Kill a Mockingbird is a superb read.

That is the problem I have as well Patty.
I used to be a voracious reader but I am afraid that nowadays in the evenings I am tired from the day. It is then too easy to slump in front of the idiot's lantern with glazed eyes for an hour, then roll into bed.
Hopefully when all the jobs for sailing are finished (they will be, they will be !) I will be able to catch up on some of the books that are waiting (Including "If I don't Write It Nobody Else Will" an Autobiography by Eric Sykes )

I really enjoyed it, but was a big fan. A comedy genius unarguably. I find the problem with tv, is you just sit gawping at it, whether it's good, bad or adverts. The hypnotic effect of flashing lights. I try to use it like a record player and just play the bits I want, but on the boat I read by preference. A chacon son gout innit Rog

I get confused. There was a good (in my opinion) TV series where at the end they had orders to go to Vigo and, after having survived thus, many died at the harbour being attacked by planes. Is this it? Yes, the boat and crew were strafed by allied aircraft as they disembarked at La Rochelle, just as it seemed their ordeal was finally over. The final scene is the Kaleun keeling over and dying as he watches his boat disappear beneath the water. It's the classic anti-war war film. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Das_BootThe boat I bought last year has the dvd on it, so I will watch it sounds good

I really like Sharpe, loved the books, and even though I have seen them a dozen times when it comes on I watch the films. I to love to read but for some reason now days struggle to find the time, but today I am reading as I am baby sitting so nothing better to do

Besides charity shops look at CEX stores. I buy most of our dvds there then sell them back once we've watched them.

The Hornblower series is very good. I was very disappointed that they didn't do more.
