I really hope time travel becomes a real thing some day. Then all the armchair experts could be dropped into the situation with a generous three seconds to determine the proper course of action and execute it perfectly. Three seconds? From looking at the whole video, it may have taken 20 minutes to come to this, there's at least 5 minutes of video before the taser was let off. The video could well be part of police training to demonstrate what NOT to do. The scuffle occurred because one of them forced his way onto the mans property, which I believe is usually illegal without a warrant, and manhandled him back into the street. Sorry but if you're in the police you WILL encounter stroppy so and so's and need to deal with them in a professional and legal way, and as calmly as possible.

I agree with the professional bit but disagree with the warrant bit. Nowadays if you are arrested for certain offences like theft and drugs they can search the premises they were at immediately before arrest and they can search your home address without any warrants. They can only search for evidence for the crime or simular crimes they were arrested for. They can also enter a property to deal with a breach of the peace or prevent it, enforce an arrest warrant, arrest a person in connection with certain offences, recapture someone who has escaped from custody and save life or prevent serious damage to property. Have you not heard of the old trick. Do you smell smoke. We better go in and check. If you think about it. If the police really want to talk to you, it would be a joke if you could just step onto private property to escape them.

The police took the initial legitimate response of the rasta bloke as a personal affront, and started an altercation. If they suspected him of a certain (an indictable - ie serious) offense they should have arrested him from the get-go, not argued for 5 to 20 mins. Personally I think their actions would get laughed out of a court of law. BTW if the police are concerned about losing the some of the trust and confidence of the public, no need to worry as the police federation are working tirelessly on their behalf to lose the rest: www.bristolpost.co.uk/bristol-police-who-tasered-63-year-old-in-the-face-were-doing-what-public-expect-says-federation/story-30079752-detail/story.htmlStill at least the police in this country are better than some of the real meat heads that pass for police in the USA.

Rubbish-dumping gippoes on the Slough Arm if the Police need tasering practice.

I'm not quite convinced that is private property. There is a sticker for picking up dog poop on the gate. However it doesn't look like a council gate. Maybe it's a communal entrance which I would say they would be allowed to enter. I'm not agreeing with their actions after though.

From an old RAF mate who worked for the old bill after de mob. A different slant on things! The PC can clearly be heard saying ' if you won't give me your name, then your under arrest' . Job done. The bloke tries to get into his house and scuffles with the officers. What is known in law as ' resisting arrest'. Sorry, that's a threat to arrest, not an arrest so they're clearly wrong, as the dropped charges attest. It does sounds like your mate has become 'institutionalized' where they find it impossible to understand where the police are obviously at fault. Anyone with a reasonable amount of common sense could probably have handled the situation a lot better. Also, he has form for a similar incident in 2009 where he received compensation from the police. If he had given his name, d.o.b and address like normal people this would never have happened to him. You've got it the wrong way round, it's the police that have 'form', the old guy has previous bad experiences with them and it's not uncommon: www.stop-watch.org/experiences/Here, just for the apologists, here's a still from the video: The tazer does not appear to be pointing up and the prong bit looks like it's come out at a funny angle. Would that be a possibility with the gun. Did she have it out before at the start of the video? I wonder what made her do that. Seems she's gone all commando on him.
