If God hadn't already existed it would have been necessary to invent her. (I don't claim any originality there.)

Has anyone summoned Carlt to this thread? He makes an excellent dismissing of religion in an instant. But then this thread would come to a full stop.
Religion has brought benefits, as well as being the 'opium of the people'. It's quite nice to sit in an empty church and enjoy the quiet and soak in the dust of History. And isn't it nice to hear the bells being rung for service on a calm Sunday morning?
Back to reading this later, removing stones from our Winter tyres (3 hours per tyre! And four of 'em)...

He didn't 'stop' the discussion of religion on CWF though did he? If those who dismiss religious beliefs were so confident, why feel the need to censor the subject? Same goes for politics to a degree. Censorship is a cop out. Although I can see those running a forum getting nervous about compliance with the law. Then again are we starting to make laws to hush people up and keep them from the truth?

Well I'm sorry Chagall but I believe that God is at best a very dark fairy tale. With bad guys and monsters (like bone cancer) everywhere. It is no God of mine. My God would never be such a c***.

You can see an example of this just a minute ago in the NBTA thread where I gently admonish Jenlyn for his childish behaviour but then suggest a cure for his ills thus the old chap is rebuked though not alienated and in time he will be grateful for my putting him on the right path. Invasion of the Body Snatchers! It looks like Wrigglyfingers has gotten into yours!!

Probably Religion was banned from t'other site as it's a twin with Politics - the 2 things that you shouldn't discuss down at the pub unless you want a punch-up. There's the possibility also that as the owner was raised in a Catholic school he was worried that people might start talking about Catholics. Did anyone mention Guy Fawkes? Not me!!

Yes I believe there is a God. I believe in Creationism and also in Intelligent Design and that the two theories can co exist. I researched various web sites in order to explain properly here since the subject is so emotive its difficult to write about it without sounding pious or pie in the sky... Creationism is described as "All life was created by the actions of God" Some Creationists say God did this in a single creative event, but others don't limit creation to one event. The most common theory follows the accounts in the bible and the first chapter Genesis, but most religions have their own creation story. Christians who take the Bible literally believe the world was created by God in seven days. In recent years, some Christians have put forward the idea of an 'intelligent designer' as an alternative to the science of evolution. Intelligent Design is more about "The current state of life on Earth has come about through the actions of an intelligent Designer" For instance, some living things contain certain types of complexity that are best explained as the result of an intelligent cause and that aspects of the universe also show positive evidence of having been designed by some form of intelligence. Its amazing how many soldiers dont believe in GOD, however when they are injured or being crushed under a tank , they suddenly start preying to GOD for help mmmmmm. For the record I do believe and the Latest Pope in Rome is the best thing to happen to religion in years

Oh dear, here we go, Old Jokes Revisited No. 254:
"Mummy, Mummy - do people go to Heaven feet first?" "I don't know, Dear, why do you ask?" "Because I've just seen the au pair in the living room with her legs up in the air shouting "Oh God, I'm coming!" and I think she would have gone and all - only Daddy was holding her down."

The lord said let there be light, and there was light, and you could see for fucking miles I don't want to poke fun at you but...... How anyone can believe in an omnipotent being in this day and age is beyond me, as a method of keeping the great unwashed in check religion was without peer, those days are long gone thankfully. Have a listen to Mr Fry on that YouTube clip above, he makes some very salient points..... I dont mind you poking fun at all, thats the thing about belief it is a personal thing and as such cannot be denied or ridiculed with any offence being taken, or at least I think it shouldnt be. I am actually a Quaker and most will say is not one's beliefs that makes a person a Quaker. Its about community, a search for divine guidance, and the attempt to live in harmony with that guidance that make a person a Quaker. I will watch the video. Fair enough, blind faith and all that. I was probably the last generation were your parents felt compelled to have you Christened as it was the right thing to do - everyone Christened their kids fiir fear of being looked down on even if they were not (like my parents) churchgoers. I've ended up with a middle name, God parents and up till the 2001 census a religion i didn't choose. Fixed that by putting Jedi knight in other my little un will be allowed to make her own mind up if she wants to sign up to a religious cult, we won't force it on her (but will do our damnedest to try to get her to see sense and not have any part in fairy tales)

As Camus said...
There is no doubt that God exists..You are asking the wrong question. The question is not "Does God exist?" but "Did God create Man or did Man create God?"
