This discussion would be far more fun if that nutjob from CWDF who's name I can't remember was here. C'mon - you need to be a bit more specific.

Anyway, for me there's no reason at all to assume there's a god or gods any and with the absence of any evidence for a god I won't be believing in one. Like Alistair Campbell when talking about new labour 'We don't do God"

I'm certain there is no god but I respect Chagall's dignified response. I like what HL Menken said; "We must respect the other fellow's religion, but only in the sense and to the extent that we respect his theory that his wife is beautiful and his children smart."

There is definitely a God and this how I know.
Yesterday I went to Asda and did some shopping with Jan. I returned the trolley but assumed she had released it using our trolley release key so inadvertently left the pound coin in it.
She wanted some change for parking later which is when I realised I'd left it in the trolley.
I did however need to return to ASDA later to buy something we had forgotten.
Low and behold the trolley I went to (a completely different one/type) still had a pound coin in it......
so yes there is a God.

With what's going on over the road at present there clearly isn't a god......unless he is on the other side, in which case we are all in trouble

I'd much rather discuss religion with someone who has faith and offers reasoned argument than a fellow atheist which tends to result in boring mutual back-slapping. By the way, for those religious folk who would like to offer greater depth of argument than "I have faith therefore god is real" I can heartily recommend "Reality and the Folly of Atheism" by Mike Robinson. I have tried to find this book in paperback. It's available only in eBook form on Amazon Kindle. It's based on "presuppositional apologetics" which presupposes that the bible is a divine revelation. As such it is a circular argument and not very useful for debating with well-read agnostics or atheists. Are you (carlt) an atheist or a believer? I'm an atheist, but find religion fascinating and try to respect others opinions. Mike Robinson has published a few books but does not seem to have many readers judging by the paucity of reviews! He attacks Richard Dawkins for his appearance, saying he looks as though he is sucking a lemon. This Ad hominem is another logical fallacy. I'll read the book if you can send me a copy and I will return it. But I'm not going to spend £7 for an eBook. MR uses lots of scholarly language but this will only impress those who already have faith.
