I'm halfway through purchasing a new toy, namely a mint '06 C320 CDI 'Avantgarde' ( for reasons I cannot fathom, nor logically explain to the missus).
I'm I missing something?
They seem bullet-proof.

A Google starter for 10 forums.mercedesclub.org.uk/showthread.php?t=109251I had a long test drive in an estate 300c with the OM642 3.0 v6 diesel engine - it was OK, nothing outstanding in such a big car, fairly refined and smooth for an oil burner, ultimately the crap plastics and the low height in the boot meant we didn't buy it. Oil seals in the turbo along with iffy gearboxes would be my big worry on an 11 year old Merc.

They are a fine looking car, all the later merc stuff is either too chintzy or ridiculously butch for my liking.
Is it a private sale or secondhand dealer stock?

If the history is right and the previous owner is moving up to an Aston you may have a better than even chance it hasn't been owned by a Muppet!

Mercedes is still selling cars because of the reputation of the cars they produced between the 50's and the 90's which were bullet proof and extremely reliable, but it's sad to say, their cars still look rather nice, but aren't half as good and reliable as the older models.
This is the same with many other makes too, often problems due to the too complicated electronics, that's why you'll never see cars like that in the darker parts of Africa where they are able to keep our abandonned MOT failed cars on the "roads" for another 25 years or longer.
Peter.

The 06 on stuff didn't suffer the same rust issues or reliability problems that plague most of the late 90's early 2000's mercs. Something went badly wrong at Stuttgart!

Finally took it for a spin today, genuinely quick and covetable.
Realistically though, not big enough.
I need to balance my mid-life crisis with the mundane realities of three (3) kids and a dog.
Sensible suggestions sought.
E Class, BMW 330, V70?
4-6K budget.

Mind you thinking about it, your kids are probably all twats like you anyway, so I feel sorry for the dog.

The one I'd go for (if you can find a good one) is a Volvo V70R 300bhp, haldex all wheel drive, 5.4 second in the 0-60 dash. Get the latest one you can find, they have a better ride than the 1st gen models. That's a quick old under the radar barge, and after all, what's not to like about a fast OVLOV? (apart from the ones the BiB have!)

The vRS is a good car (I've got a revo mapped 1.8 tsi 4x4) but, it's not a high end motor which is what Tomsk is looking at.
