An even more fashionably late Owdo, from just a bit further north east and uphill of Foxy, whose not been to Eccles shopping centre yet, obvs. The apogee of grim.

Took the railway to Chester via Northwich & Delamere Forest, not been on that line before. Missed the Trent & Mersey Canal but saw the Weaver. Tiller bearing done, looks OK, can't see inside though. Feels OK. We wuz up at 0030 Chirk time (0230 Helsinki time) so are a bit knackered, parked outside the Poacher's; scampi & mushy peas, cauliflower cheese pie + salad, then to stagger 200m to the boat and flop into bed. Coal in stove smouldering away, candle lanterns on roof & on tiller arm stub.

Poacher's Pocket is by Bridge 19w, between Chirk Bank and Lion Quays. Marstons - so, free WiFi but food freezer-to-microwave. However, it seems popular, was packed and had to wait for a table. Only 2 'real' beers - Hobgoblin & Pedigree. Whittington today if weather good, to look at castle - for that village Jack Mytton nearest tie-up mooring (uh - I mean 'parking spot'!)

Thanks for that, I remember it now. Whittington castle, yes worth the reasonably short cycle ride to. Hope the weather holds out for you.

Complete change! A bell ringer from Chirk came to look our boat and then drove it to the Jack Mytton... in there for an hour and left 1640! Raining, then spectacular double rainbow full arches, then headlight on before Val Hill and an hour driving in the dark. Now for Ellesmere pub crawl!! Windy day.

My pal has a boat on Chirk Marina, we regularly do trips either ways from there, it's great!! Went for lunch last Sunday to the Poachers, highly recommended! Welcome Newbie BTWπ
