Trina, I too love this retirement lark, and as Chris has just taken up cake baking again I am happy to report that my waistline is going the same way as yours and you know what? I don't care. Phil

Try this one Phil, the dwarf and I make these regularly - easy peasy and oh so tasty Double chocolate brownies with soy caramel sauce Tim Anderson's wickedly good double chocolate brownies have an unusual soy caramel sauce. A fab chocolate dessert! Ingredients Brownies: Brownies 200g butter, melted 100g dark chocolate, chopped 100g milk chocolate, chopped 80g plain flour 40g cocoa powder 1 tsp ground cinnamon 3 eggs 200g dark brown sugar 80g caster sugar Soy caramel sauce: 300g caster sugar 50ml water 150ml whole milk 150ml single cream 30ml Kikkoman soy sauce Method Place the chocolate into a bowl, pour the hot melted butter over and stir. Leave to melt for a few minutes, stirring occasionally to redistribute heat. Heat the oven to 175ΒΊC. Cream the sugars and eggs with an electric mixer, until the mixture is pale, light, and ribbony. Stir in the chocolate and butter mixture, then sift in the flour, cocoa powder, and cinnamon. Fold together until smooth and well combined, but do not overmix. Line a baking tin with lightly greased baking paper and pour in the batter, smoothing the top with a spatula. Bake for about 25 minutes, then check the consistency: if the middle of the brownie batter still wobbles when shaken, keep cooking in 5 minute intervals until the batter is solid and a thin crust is forming on the top and sides of the brownies. Remove from oven and allow to cool completely before cutting into squares. While the brownies are cooling, heat the milk and cream together in a saucepan until simmering. Place the caster sugar and water in another saucepan and cook on a medium heat. When the sugar has dissolved, turn up the heat and avoid stirring to prevent crystallization. As soon as the sugar turns a rich golden amber, quickly bring the cream and milk to a boil and pour into the sugar, whisking continuously to combine. Be careful because the caramel will foam up dramatically. Remove the caramel from heat and stir in the soy sauce. Leave to cool slightly to allow the mixture to thicken. To serve, spoon some of the warm soy caramel on top of a brownie. Also delicious with a scoop of vanilla, caramel, honeycomb, or praline ice cream.

While only being 53 one thing I have noticed about getting older is, falling asleep during the day anywhere is much easier.
I tried to teach my girls skipping a couple of years ago, they wouldve been 6&4, Got them both lined up, skipping rope behind me ready for the first rotation, "ok girls all you have to do is remember to jump as the rope goes under your feet, just like this"
AS I landed my right knee gave way and daddy ended up in a heap much to the amusment of the sprogs who kept asking me to do it again.
The brain still thinks your young and i've just rediscovered my old Playstation 2 which had been in storage for several years and I'm now re-fighting Conflict Desert Storm as part of an SAS team in Iraq, When I can get time in front of the Telly that is, which is normally when everyone else has gone to bed.

Yup deffo getting older, last night I took delivery of a load of scaffold boards and the young driver was running late, I was his last drop and he was keen to get home for s big night out. We had to handball the load 2 boards at a time to the storage point......but he did it it a fair trot with me doing my best to keep up. By the time we were done so was I. And this morning weirdly enough mu hips hurt. There was a time when I could have done it on my own but that seems a distant memory now. Phil

I'm quite young in comparison to some, only 37. I feel very old though I still play football and tonight as usual we were playing a bunch of 18 year olds. I'm twice their age and when they break quickly it's bloody hard to keep up.
I've just home and we'll I'm shattered. I feel 63. With my dodgy knee and smokers lungs. But hey were still top of the league.

My Rememberer
My forgetter's getting better
But my rememberer is broke
To you that may seem funny
But, to me, that is no joke.
For when I'm 'here' I'm wondering
If I really should be 'there'
And, when I try to think it through,
I haven't got a prayer!
Often times I walk into a room,
Say "what am I here for?"
I wrack my brain, but all in vain
A zero, is my score.
At times I put something away
Where it is safe, but, Gee!
The person it is safest from
Is, generally, me!
When shopping I may see someone,
Say "Hi" and have a chat,
Then, when the person walks away
I ask myself, "who was that?"
Yes, my forgetter's getting better
While my rememberer is broke,
And it's driving me plumb crazy
And that isn't any joke.
P.S. Send this to everyone you know . . . because I don't remember who sent it to me!
Anon.

I'm Fine, How are You?
There's nothing the matter with me,
I'm just as healthy as can be,
I have arthritis in both knees,
And when I talk, I talk with a wheeze.
My pulse is weak, my blood is thin,
But I'm awfully well for the shape I'm in.
All my teeth have had to come out,
And my diet I hate to think about.
I'm overweight and I can't get thin,
But I'm awfully well for the shape I'm in.
Arch supports I need for my feet.
Or I wouldn't be able to go out in the street.
Sleep is denied me night after night,
But every morning I find I'm all right.
My memory's failing, my head's in a spin.
But I'm awfully well for the shape I'm in.
The moral of this as the tale unfolds,
Is that for you and me, who are growing old.
It is better to say "I'm fine" with a grin,
Than to let people know the shape we are in.
I'm fine, how are you ?

For those of you who don't, dental floss is a good and cheap way to keep your Gnashers in tip-top shape. I'm wondering, at the age of 56, about prostate cancer - apparently it's quite common. Will have to start reading about it. I'm also of the opinion that drinking alcohol over 40% is a good way to keep your arteries and veins unclogged from fat, it just dissolves the fat. We looked through the windows of an Old Age Home last week and I thought Gawd - imagine being in a place like that looking at white-haired women asleep in armchairs with their mouths open, so you look at the TV and it's some shite like Emmerdale or The News. Best to keep trekking and drop dead somewhere that's most inconvenient for others such as Aisle 6 at ASDA canned vegetables and cat food. Last thing I want to do, end up mixing with old people. Yeeuurrghhhh!
