Also a strip of coke can metal might do, once 'formed' it could be tacked into the socket or onto the leg with a few stripes of glue.
ETA: Ah OK, try the ally tape first, should do nicely.

These things are inherently wobbly. The socket is too shallow meaning there is too much leverage at the table end. A great idea that despite barely working has sold thousands. I've never seen one that doesn't wobble. The trouble is there isn't a flush alternative.
I have an L shaped leg fixed on the side of my seat base. The leg doesn't wobble but the table top slips round instead. You can't win.

I did wonder if it was normal. It can be made more secure by pushing it down harder. Perhaps a block of wood over the top of the pole and a whack with a hammer. Tap the side to loosen afterwards.
I've got a bigger table which I use if 4 of us are eating but that can move quite badly tipping stuff off.
Annoying. As you say its a basically crap design but there appear to be no sensible alternatives. Perhaps a hole right through to the baseplate with a guide tube and a bit magnet to hold it to the bottom of the boat. Maybe too complicated.

Even twice depth might sort it as long as it was tight at top and bottom of the hole. I had a quick search and didn't find a deeper one, but they may be out there because this annoys a lot of people.
Perhaps there's an opportunity there...boats, campers, caravans...

Since reading this thread I had been wondering what someone could do about it .... sensibly Would a disc of metal with a hole in the centre (the size of the upright), welded to the pole like a skirt, so that the disc sits flat on the floor when the pole is located in the socket ? presumably it would make storage of the pole harder but it might make it a lot more stable. Just a thought

Just a thought Could a system of using rubber washers be the answer? Something similar to the plastic push-fit plumbing fixtures, would need to make the washers replaceable though. ETA - Was more thinking about the design than curing the OPs question.
