The first photo I stole as I can tell find all of mine. This is camasunary. The further building was the bothy. The second picture is mine looking out to sea. The first building is a a house in sure gavin maxwell wrote a book there although he lived on a little island under the skye bridge. I've spent many nights in there as it's right by the cullin, so we go off climbing and walking from there. Once the fire is lit it's really cosy aand being in the middle of nowhere, quiet and absolutely breathtaking when your sat out at sun set. I've just found out the owners have taken it back so they have built a new one there. A bit sad but looking forward to going there one day. It's about a three miles walk. And with all the gear is a nightmare but worth it. Might even go there for a weekend sea fishing trips but it's a long drive. They are a great idea. Every time we use one we take fire stuff and food to leave. You never know when someone will need to use the bothy in an emergency. There will always be a way of making fire and tinned food.

Hmmm, not so secret any more! There's one up Glen Feshie, a few miles from the gliding club, I stayed in it overnight once with a gang of folk, quite fun (we had plenty of whisky!) - young and tough then and didn't need central heating!

Back in the day s of my RAF service I was part of the search & rescue team at RAF Kinloss & we had listing of all the then available bothies were a godsend on some of the winter call outs I was a mountain leader with the scouts and we used to use on in Wales. It was just stones built up and a fire place. No roof so not really a bothy but my God was in good when the clouds came in and it got windy.

It's lucky most bothies are miles from anywhere so the ones I've seen have survived ok.
I'm like you. I've camped outside a few and just used the bothie to cook inside and as a seating area.
I like the idea of them and believe many a life has been saved.
