I did that once and got a warning for it and my post removed. Showing how shitty some members can be is not permitted. Same thing happened to me. The PM post disappeared within 5 minutes. I may be wrong...I accept that I can be wrong but... Ive been advised that words written even in pm's and letters belong to the person who composed them and under copywriter laws cannot be published fully without permission of who wrote them. You can publish some of the content a 'reasonable' amount or you can paraphrase...but they may have removed them because they are an infringement of copywriter. It may be that or it could be because of 'shitty members' or combination of both. Paraphrasing the written word I think is ok.

Yup, that's the problem. People assume and because there are some people, who believe they know all there is to know about a subject and love handing down tablets of stone....... Bingo !!! They are the ones who really hate it, when someone comes along who has thought outside the box. It is almost impossible to find an engineering problem that has only one solution. I love it when someone comes out with something innovative. It's the expressions of the know it alls that amuses me How is that the problem? The problem was surely that if they do have a great charging solution that gets them through the winter then they could have simply said "Don't need a charger thanks. We've been CCing for over 2 years and have our charging regime pretty well sorted out".
Then the discussion could have been about their 'innovative out the box' solution. In effect that is what was said (assuming your quoting of her post is accurate) ...... a proper monitoring system and a charge controller ....... Certainly my solar controller can be set up for whatever charging system/rate/battery type/whatever and if you have a big enough array plus a large alternator ..... Q.E.D. It is not the posters fault if people jump to conclusions as I said there is always more than one way to skin a cat.

They are CC's but not liveaboards. They have a generator but never use it. When I PM'd them to offer help they were very 'off' and sarcastic. We only have her point of view on the other PMs as to if they were rude or not. I hope they do come here but sharing Private Messages is really not the done thing - a breach of trust, I think.

That would make it ok to abuse someone privately and then hide behind the abuse being original copyright? Right or wrong technically, morally indefensible.

When I PM'd them to offer help they were very 'off' and sarcastic. She was a bit like that at the beginning of the thread. Could her husband put a plug on the end of the immersion heater cable and plug it into the shore power bollard? When someone said they shouldn't have leads draped around, going through windows etc she replied "We're not stupid!"

I too had a PM exchange with her. Well she started it, to thank me for my helpful post but also to say that she gets cross when she is "told" about batteries. I tried to point out that it was a discussion forum and a questioner couldn't expect to ask a question in the hope of getting free advice that remained clinically on topic. She said the place wasn't for her and I said I doubted she would find anywhere else that met her needs so I had to agree. No mention of nasty PMs - maybe mine were?
Anyway I do think she is too sensitive to "being told" to survive for long on any forum, which is a shame. I suggested that when you are "told" something, you should consider it a gift - like a gift of a Christmas jumper from your great aunt, you can be appreciative in public but in private, decide what you want to do with that gift. She didn't seem to take that on board.

If they come here and see this thread I reckon they will depart rapidly, never to return!

I suspect the poor soul has discovered the folly of asking any questions.
You will be given answers, not necessarily to the question you asked, and judgements will instantly be made about your knowledge and wisdom.
What's not to like.

Another case of where the"experts" on cwdf are doing a fine job of welcoming newbies to their forum. I do find it funny though when ever there is a problem on cwdf, people run here to talk about it.

Rog My view is that if you ask questions of strangers, seeking what might be considered technical/professional advice from amateurs, you cannot expect all the answers to be cogent, precisely on topic and worded so as not to offend the easily offended. If you cannot tolerate any additional information or "judgments" then your life will be blighted by an inability to learn from others, since the perfect source of information desired, simply doesn't exist.

It is my impression, and I am often wrong, that when a new Female member arrives on cwdf she is often mansplained (as my wife calls it) by a few individuals. Should she be a bit flirty as well then one or two get a bit too 'protective' as well. Just my impression and maybe I am seeing something that is not there............
