I was just looking on ebay for water heating ideas and stumbled across this swimming pool heater. Basically a solar collector but a bit different to the tube type. Not sure how big it is but its quite an attractive item and looks to be adaptable for boat use somehow. Put it beside a barrel of water with a small pump it might get enough hot water for a shower. pages.ebay.com/link/?nav=item.view&id=322385425166

I hate cats. One woke me yesterday at 2am. It sounded like a small child crying on the towpath anyway I shooed it away and didn't get back to sleep after that..

We have these on our flat. Great in the summer.
It doesn't heat the water up totally but will keep help keep it topped up. I can't remember how it works but it's clever. Pumps water up to the roof.
We turn our water heater on over night once every three days and let the solar do the rest. We go down to on average everywhere night in the winter apart from the real dark cold bits then every night obviously.
We've never run out of hot water but the tank does only heat up to the minimum legal limit.

I don't suppose it applies to boats but I had never heard of it.

However if the water temp is above 60 degrees C it kills Legionella, so you want to keep your hot water at least that hot Not my field but I saw something about it some where

60 Celsius, to prevent growth of legionella. But not a legal requirement in a private dwelling. Landlords do have a 'duty of care'.

It can't be any colder.
