RNLI is top of my list, I have donated to them (somewhat erratically) for 50 years and on a couple of occasions been in receipt of their good services. I always support Poppy day (with a damn sight more than the token donation that most give) Others ...... Essex Air Ambulance, Lady Mcadden Breast unit in Southend, Family Mosaic Southend and occasionally to other local charitable groups. All begging letters are immediately filed in the bin unless they contain useful items (included to try and blackmail you into giving them some money) these have the useful items removed and are then filed in the bin. Last year my sister kept count of the begging letters from charities ....... 107 !!! (and no, She didn't contribute) Appledore Lifeboat Mollie Hunt by mudlarker2, on Flickr a sight for sore eyes when you are in trouble

It was a long time ago, but when I was at school we had a huge campaign for a crisis in Africa, organised by Oxfam. As far as I can remember it was for the Biafrans in the Nigerian civil war.
We collected so much that Oxfam told us that the crates containing the items procured with our contribution would be marked as being donated by Reading School.
A few years later I was working on the railway parcels at Christmas at Reading Station, and the porters told us that 2 goods vans had 'gone missing' and were eventually found at Park Royal in West London. When they were opened up, guess what they found?
