Seemed the obvious thing to do really. I wonder if the financial manager position is a paid job?
As cw is such a big and widely viewed forum I would have thought advertising would be quite a nice earner.
There will be howls of protest if that happens. Looking at the linked page it is not actually part of the plan but I can't help thinking the site will be monetised at some point ?

Just before and during the great purge there was a lot of suggestions that this could well be Dan's eventual aim. ............. I suspect that if he does we will see Thunderboats membership numbers get a hike

I can't view goodgurl's link as I'm still banned. But I think it has been dans intention for a while to monetize cwdf. It begs the question about the morality of profiting from input that people have given freely and in good faith.

You mean you can't even view CW as a guest? did they ban you "at source" ie your ip address? Thats quite extreme. I opened the link it took me to CW as a guest viewer.

I assumed banned members were just not allowed to log in. Didn't realise you were actually blocked even viewing (I'm not very techknowledgeable but this seems to be quite a severe action) Have you tried with a mobile connection? What about if someone else wanted to log in using your computer. Perhaps you need to clear active logins in internet browser so that you can view as a guest?

Anyway the link goes to this text (I realise this is not very relevant but as some people apparently can't see it...)

I assumed banned members were just not allowed to log in. Didn't realise you were actually blocked from your ip. Have tou tried with a mobile connection? To be honest, I can't be arsed. I was banned for causing dissent !!! (which loosely translated means that I disagreed with the policies and methods of the establishment and argued against them) And anyway why would I want to post somewhere that bans emoji's

You can only be banned if you try to log in. Or rather, if you or your computer try to log in. If you previously logged in automatically via a cookie, you need to clear the cookie, use "in private" mode or equivalent, or use a different browser, if you want to view CWDF, but even then some of the forums are limited to logged in members.

I reckon its a browser thing. I wasn't banned but I don't go on CW any more as a logged in member. I regularly clear my browser history, cache, biscuits etc to avoid confusion. When I clicked on gg's link it went to the announcement, viewing as a guest.

WTF. It reads like an ad for some high powered job in the city not some low key boating forum. Anyone remember those heady days when Jon Belcher started the forum and people helped one another for Jack or indeed argued with one another. FFS Financial Administrator! Marketing effing Manager for a poxy boating forum. Pass the bucket.

Even I don't bother popping into Canalworld any more - just occasionally for the 'Stoppages'. But, who knows what will happen in the future? Thunderboat seems to be ticking over nicely, let's hope it continues like this. You deleted cookies on your browser, or cleared active logins. I expect if JohnV and kris did this they would be able to view the forums IF they wanted to.
