As I said on another thread, I think Loafer and Gazza were avoiding me last summer I've met Phil (and he of course has met me ) He must be brave (either that or he didn't know that everyone else was avoiding me ........ or was it him that warned everyone to stay away ? ) Foxy and Witchy of course ........but Ross is brave ......... or ....... well ........ Ross ) Noooo John, definitely not. We'd have loved to have met the whole Fens crowd, but especially yourself.

I'd got Phil down as being on Brandon Creek! π Another time all being well π

I went to Braunston historic boat thingy once and I did see Mtb at a distance but never bothered to go and say hello...I always thought I'd be intruding to actually go and say 'hi' to folks.

If you were including Canalworld members ....... I would be adding a few, as I went to a couple of banters .......... mostly I didn't get to talk long enough to anyone to get more than a brief idea about them, I also have a terrible memory for names ........ but Madcat, Lone Wolf. Pipistrelle, Mrsmelly and Cheshire Rose, stick in my memory because of their warm welcomes (not that anyone was unwelcoming, they were just all busy talking to old friends) ...... but that was then
Those are days past, If I am such a terrible a troll and trouble maker that I warranted a lifetime ban, then Canalworld and those who support the attitudes and actions of the owners clique, .......... can go spin.

If you ever see me around I will be delighted if you come over and say hi, you would very definitely NOT be intruding

I think the merrier, more flexible, worldly-experienced types have spilled over into Thunderboat. Some have come and didn't like it and gone back to Canalworld. I've had a few glances at Canalworld, mainly for the Stoppages section, but have no desire to re-join as I find it rather dry and dusty there. I prefer normal down-to-Earth people and not the fake two-faced. Life is too short to deal with bland. I have no interest in rejoining Canalworld, either if allowed under my own name or as a sock puppet, as long as it is considered by someone as "his possession" and to be run so that any glory is reflected in his CV. As I argued at the time, if for any reason he feels that it reflects badly on him and effects his career, then it is time he passed it on to someone else. After all, it's not as if it is his brainchild and something he started ...... someone else handed it on to him.

Im off canal world now..got locked outta my computer due to IT glitch(fancy terminology for me messing with clearing history and locking myself out of everything)...anyway couldn't remember that password and hadn't got it stored in my little notebook of important facts so couldn't be bothered..couldn't even remember which email i'd set up with as Ive deleted 3 email sites in a purge.

Just to say Jim, that the piece of 3x2 you pointed out floating in the cut last week works perfectly as a Calder & Hebble hand spike. All I did was cut the rotten ends off, pull out the nails and whittle down the grip end with a knife a bit, and Bob was my uncle. It says on CanalPlan that CRT sell hand spikes for Β£15 and I am so parsimonious that I make Scotsmen appear the model of generosity so thanks. Brighouse now.

Not been up that way since 2005. Called at a chandlers and bought a hand spike (in my naivety) for Β£14.......in 2005.......a bloody kings ransom! Of course I soon discovered any old bit of timber will do, but too late. I still have the precious wood. At least it's akin to a baseball bat, and I can legitimately have it on my boat Rog

I might whittle it down some more, maybe even sand it and paint it if I find myself needing to while away life's dreary hour sometime, but for now it does the job perfectly.

We love the run east, the mix of river and cut on the Calder and Hebble. the first river section as you leave Brighouse, open up that throttle, get out the waterskis!! If you need to stock up on supplies you'll pass a lidl with moorings right by the cut in Mirfield tomorrow. As you get to Wakefield you can tie up to the wall just downstream of where the cut comes off the river, huge mooring bollards, to visit the Barbara Hepworth Gallery just along the river a bit, if you are into a bit of kulcher. Stanley Ferry is a good place to stop, Premier inn by the cut and a swindlery and boatyard. Sani point and shower too. There's a small shop about half a mile away on the road adjacent. Castleford is also a handy mooring, toilets, shops and market in town centre a walk away, over an amazing footbridge above a weir with a wrecked ship below. Glad that bit of threebytwo was ok - for the readers I was just asking him if he knew about the handspike, lo and behold - the threebytwo was there floating by the lock gate!!! And as Dogless says, they make a legal Rat KNobbler. I have one shiny varnished one, one fished out of the cut, both hardwood. The pine threebytwo doesn't last as long, but fine if you are just passing through.
