What's the reason, water shortage? Pie shortage. The first time I went down , in 2004 ish, there was a wonderful pie shop half way down ish, on a road that crossed the cut. It had closed last time I went through.

I bought one of my boats in Wigan in 2009 at the bottom of the flight by BW offices. Went up a couple of locks and a bloke came out of some undergrowth with bleeding hands and said "doo ya want sim cheeep deeesel?" I said no its alright and he went back in. Shortly afterwards a couple of security blokes asked if I had seen a rough irishman I said yes and pointed them in the other direction. Anyway I had a look there was loads of plastic cable sheathing about. I imagine he was planning to nick my diesel and sell it back to me.
Other boaters said don't do half the flight wait til the morning and do the whole thing. I did half the flight, moored outside houses and a load of yobboes jumped on the boat then untied it. I started engine and moored in the empty lock. They buggered off.
Happy days.
