I found the engine photo odd too.
I agree about the windows. Unless they are sealed units it will cause heat loss and condensation problems.
It definitely looks to be mostly a summer boat.

I think you are right. So Q3. If you had 20k to spend on updating it (bearing in mind this would be spent over a number of years and the major work would need to be carried out by tradesmen), would you be interested? Ignore hull condition. Personally, I'd be looking for something more conventionally suited to living aboard. Nothing will alter the fact that it has too many windows for example. Must just say that this doesn't look like a new engine installed this year... Spotted, Sir Snotted !!! gearbox possibly, but unless my eyes deceive me, that looks like a BMC ....... and at best a paint spray re-build

It's not even been painted, so it's a second-hand "as-is" scrapyard engine at best. Advert says it's a Vetus engine.

I reckon it probably has got a new engine in it but they have recycled a photo from when they bought the boat which was within the last year I believe. I have been going up the Thames every year for the last 25 years and I'm pretty sure that boat was still at Trowlock Island above Teddington last summer.
I suspect they bought it cheap/not working put a new engine in did some work and are now going for some profit.
It always seemed to be moored up and never used, previously.
Its a really nice boat but £35k does seem a bit OTT to me.

Engine is carefully described as "newly installed".

Thanks for all the replies. Keeps me grounded.
The boat isn't for me, whilst I'd be ok with taking a bit of a risk with electrics and the cold, the risk of the 'newly installed' engine and gearbox would have been my main concern.
The ability to to 'run away from life' (even if I do return within a few hours...) is important to me.
Thankfully no one has suggested I just rent a grotty bedsit in a horrible town...........

I'd suggest something a bit smaller. If you have lived in tents before then I'm sure a 30 foot nb would be luxury.
What do you need all the power sockets for? Are you referring to 240v sockets for playing with a hair drier or usb sockets for playing with a phone?
It makes a difference.

I don't need electrics for everyday stuff (other than starting the engine), although some would be nice. I have a Sat phone and solar chargers for emergencies (if I can find them in the junk). What sort of boat I buy will depend on funds, but I at least think I'm asking the correct questions.

Depends largely on your attachments to clutter that we surround ourselves with..those must have which we don't need. I'm continually ditching stuff in the Cottage....I'd get rid of far more if family didn't expect there to be cooking utensils/plates etc when they visit..even so they are comments cos I don't have gadgets. I guess only you know what you cannot be without..if i could get back to a boat I'd leave most of my stuff behind and would go for a smaller one than I had before..58ft was to big..i did not need that bedroom space. She also had the hopper style windows..condensation and cold..
