I've been watching the film "Paddington" with my infant units and noticed that the family he stayed with (in a house) have what looks like a proper old Buckby can on a shelf in the kitchen. Does anyone know what boat it came from? It looks like the real thing to me.

No offence intended, but how sad is that?
Everybody else watching the fun filled cuddly bear, and you checking out the background for boat related memorabilia?

I have an eye for detail regarding things related to the cut an canal boats. I'm guessing that its probably a standard prop and may have turned up in other films as well. I'm not an expert on this particular item but it looks like a real one.

No idea of the boat but looks to be a Ron Hough or Jess Owen artwork As an aside why have they seemed to end up with the moniker of BUCKBY CAN they were always known in working days as water cams or just cans there was a shop by Buckby Top lock that sold boaty bits & general goods & were prepared to allow boatmen a form of Hire Purchase which was the only way many could afford painted ware so i guess that's how the name came about but cans were never made/painted there
