Britain's politicians are thieving, lying cretins. No chance of anything sensible coming from any of them.

Well, yes. But nothing wrong with getting one's own house in order. It's an incredible waste of reserves - those huge canals have been built already - and yet are not being used at all for their intended purpose. Most inefficient - and then there is the cry of "We have no resources". Yet there is the dosh to build HS2 so BBC executives from London can save 10 minutes off the journey when they go to check their minions in Manchester aren't skiving. And there's unemployment in Goole? Couldn't the unemployed be driving barges up and down the Aire & Calder / Calder & Hebble?

Maybe they could use scrotes as crew. It would save them from being violently murdered by Mrs tabby.
could be an overall boost for a failing society.
Work yes but housing I don't think so.

Some people seem to assume that there is still a demand for bulk goods to be transported from one existing wharf to another; however I'll bet the 90% of those wharf facilities were purpose built for one particular application which is now obsolete. For example, how many coal-powered power stations are still in operation? And how many of those are located on the waterway network but are no longer supplied by barge?
Bulk fuel oils are routinely carried around the country by a government-owned pipeline network built during WW2. You do not see many large regular bulk deliveries of fuel oil to large installations (distribution depots, large airports, etc.) being undertaken by road or rail. I should know, my employers took over the operation of large parts of the network.

I hate agreeing with bodger but the above comment is true. it certainly is. I am currentlu working in a petrol statuon and we have two tankers a day. imagine how many would be going into Heathrow. living near Fawley. there are quite a few fuel and oil lines around here.

Britain's politicians are thieving, lying cretins. No chance of anything sensible coming from any of them. The "thieving, lying cretins " didn't vote themselves into the job, so what does that say about the electorate?

No I can't paint it yet ...... it needs to get that pitted nearly knackered look ..... so that it matches the rest of the boat
