I usually take the ashes out in the morning and put them in a stainless steel bucket which is insulated from the pontoon woodwork with a cast iron cap originally fitted to the top of a wooden mooring post/pile. If the ashes are particularly hot I may sprinkle some water over them from a watering can.

I fill a bucket with the ashes from Rayburn and wood burner..its situated in back porch...when its full I have to dismantle a piece of fence and climb down a bank to put them in the swamp in an attempt to create a more solid path just over my fence.....I believe I am wasting my time...so to-day I may dig a drainage ditch...
