This pretty boat is an old tug that has a single cylinder Kromhout hotbulb engine. I just love the sound, which gives me lots of memories of the time when I was young(er) . There will surely be (at least) a couple of other forum-members that like this sound too I guess. Peter.

This little tug belongs to Charles of H2O and he’s steering it in the clip. I had a ride on it when he got in a few years ago and it’s certainly a lot smarter now. Lovely engine but also good vibrations.

It sounds fantastic, and is a very pretty boat too, thanks.
But I often wonder if having been stood over that engine cruising for several hours, whether you ever actually reach a point when you can no longer hear it.

Rog Quite the reverse in my case with the Seffle my ear got so attuned to the exhaust note I could tell if I had a "Fag paper on the blade

I think that this KROMHOUT is a M-0 type, which is given to deliver 15Hp at 500n they idle at about 100n Here is a short video of (my kind of) a woman that manages this starting trick very well, and even has the ear to change the running direction of her engine by injecting fuel at just the right moment.
There are several other videos on youtube about these Kromhout glowbulb engines starting procedures, all interesting to watch (for old engine lovers). Peter.

I like it Peter, she has done that more than once before.

I like it Peter, she has done that more than once before. By looking at the seemingly ease she's managing this, I would say that too. Peter.

I like old engines, but I don't think I could cope with a semi diesel.

Hi Peter, Lovely sounding engine and Charles' boat coming out of the lock off the River Seine at St Jean de Losne, into the basin and turning left to where H2O's workshops are, from memory of when I used to do that lock. Roger Hi Roger, I know you've been away from France for a while now, but Saint Jean de Losne and river Seine doesn't fit very well here . For them that are familiar with the area, it's clear that Roger wanted to write river Saône here instead of Seine. Peter.

I suppose that she just wanted to successfully show how easy it is (for her) to start by hand, which is always good, as what would she do otherwise the day there was no (or not enough) air left in the tank to start her engine ? Peter.

I like old engines, but I don't think I could cope with a semi diesel. Why do you say that the "Seffle" i had in my boat was Glowplug heating ,Airstarting , had a reverse gearbox it was a much bettr/easier stater in winter than the 2pot National that was in the boat when bought more reliable also
