good (fitted one in Shapfell) but a bit pricey ...... and adds gas to the mix, which I think for the BSS he has so far avoided

Propex may be an option. The boat does not have a gas locker. I really dislike those bottle cages on the back of boats and I don't want to penetrate the hull side for a locker vent so I don't think I can get a bss pass fixed gas system on there.
Of course if I find that I mostly use the boat on tidal water the BSS is not required so I can put the gas bottle anywhere and have a sniffer on there.
I prefer not to have fixed gas anyway though.
I'm leaning towards charcoal stove with flue at the moment but no hurry as heating is always a job to be sorted in the summer anyway.

I have been looking at what pics i can see of your boat to see if you could fit a small locker for a 3.9KG Calour higher up so no need to cut a drain hole. Could be worth looking at. I have just used a 6KG every weekend for a few hours at a time and lasted good few months.

I've bought this tractor cab heater. The next question is where exactly to put it in the the engine cooling circuit ? Look at this on eBay www.ebay.co.uk/itm/263475731047It has two air outlets so I should be able to get warm air into the cabin and also to the helm position.

Given it comes with ear defenders it must be a very noisy heater

Someone mentioned to me a few years ago about Flower Pot heaters. I've never looked into them to see if the idea works, but here's the first youtube video I grabbed off t'net about them.

I know there are fairly cheap matrix heaters about and diy would have been doable but I am hoping that this one is a high quality unit. Its a bit of a gamble but I have an idea that its a good one. Will find out soon anyway. Main thing of interest is the 12v power consumption. The engine has a modern alternator on it which looks about 45a to me. I can probably fit a pwm speed controller on the heater fan if it turns out to be power hungry.

You may have to drill into the heat exchanger to add the return.
Various ways of doing it depending on what you have.
Stick a picture up of the HX - be interesting to see where best to locate it.

Will do. It's a tube type heat exchanger on there which looks like a larger version of the gearbox oil cooler on my PRM260 on another of my boats.
Not keen to drill it. I hope I can find another way to get this matrix heater working.

I hope I can find another way to get this matrix heater working. It depends on how the pipework is done. You may be able to tee into the return pipe to the HX. A separate return is the only way our BMC could be piped as the HX sits on top of the stat on long studs straight to the head. It is piped straight into the engine water pump (effectively what would be the bottom house on a vehicle) from the outlet of the HX - no space whatsoever to break into that part of the system any other way.

I'll get some pics tomorrow to extend the discussion a bit Boats are so much more interesting than people being offensive to each other.

I don't use candles on any of my boats. Its against my religion.
Flowerpot over a cooker ring is quite common but anything without a flue is going to cause damp and/or CO problems .
