I've always likes Thames tugs. As I am going to be out and about on the Thames more this year than previously I will be seeking them out and thought maybe worth adding a picture thread. Should be able to add at least ten more this week - boats in varying conditions including a sunk one with just the top of the wheelhouse visible. If anyone has any other Tugs to add (not necessarily Thames) please do Starter for 10. Thameside. Not a particularly old boat as its welded but some heavy pitting so probably 1960s. 15x4m. Gardner 6. Not sure on draft but quite deep. Seen today on Limehouse cut (not sure why its come off the river).

Pics from today 27/3/18 ^ ex BW River Lea tug (welded) I think it has a 6 pot Lister air cooled unit ^^ unknown welded launch tug. Both of the above at BJ woods Isleworth near Twickenham More to follow Unknown tug I think this is "Cubow". Rolls Royce diesel unit in it when I was a lad but apparently now repowered with a Volvo Penta. May not be Cubow but looks very similar. Dancha just starting up. eel pie slipways Converted launch tug Billdora. Believed to have a Gardner 6 in there. One of the smaller Thames launch tugs "Teddington" neatly slotted into a crane barge it was probably towing before that. Last but not least one of my favourite Thames tugs "Endeavour". Gardner 8 in there. Owner won't let it go just wants to keep it as it has been for a few years. . Picture from Thames tugs website of what it looked like before sinking. OK so its hit a couple of bridges but what a nice looking boat !!

Spotted my favourite thames tug at Oxford today. I can't remember the name of it but it is a lovely little tug. An old riveted steel launch tug about 20ft long or a bit less. Real beauty like a big tug which had gone in a miniaturising machine. 6 pot Thornycroft in it I think or possibly a Ford. Now owned by Salters of Oxford. Not a great photo but here it is behind the steamer. Its not very big but it'll pull a lighter no problem.

I've not really had a good luck at this thread before but well done the photos are great, thank you Andrew and John. I really like the smaller Thames tugs I imagine they are a bit deep for around here though. This is my favourite Thames tug video though, yes yes I know we have had it before.

Seen today on Limehouse cut (not sure why its come off the river). This one is being bodged around. Spotted on Paddington Arm GU last weekend. They cut the towing bar off Boat is far too deep for the cut and the Gardner must take all the space. Very odd choice of boat to convert. Awful

Slightly unusual tug up at Eynsham on Thames seen this week. I think its an EC Jones of Brentford boat. It looks a bit like a Bantam but there is something different about it the stern looks different and it has no enclosed wheel house. Welded steel I think.

that is an interesting one Andrew ...... very reminiscent of the pictures you see of the very early river tugs with the canvas dodger and hood instead of a wheelbox

Environment agency tug Churn a couple of weeks ago. Still in service but I think they took the Gardner out and put a scania in there in the easily 00s. Nice tug this one - a big version of the little one at salters in oxford

As this is about Tugs, and not only Thames Tugs, I'll try to post a few Dutch Tugs (from a for sale site), and hope to have more luck this time than yesterday when it went all terribly wrong with my blocked, hacked laptop. DAF 575 CAT 365 Volvo-Penta 450 BT Doosan 200 Kromhout-Gardner 6LS Peter.
