I would much rather live in a house like this: than one like this: Me too. About six or seven years ago I came within a gnat's whisker of buying this, I just couldn't get the finance arranged in time to bid at auction. It has a self-contained two bedroomed flat above, it sold for £130,000.

I have two LED spotlights which are screwed to the underside of a shelf which, rather bizarrely has been screwed over the cupboard door shown. Equally bizarrely, the cupboard has two doors and can still be accessed via the other one. I have no idea how it was originally or why it had two doors in the first place? That really is a weird one !!! It is weird, isn't it? My best guess is that this was done using reclaimed wood from an earlier boat, but I have just emailed Malcolm Rhodes, who did the fit-out, to see if he can shed any light on it, in the past he has been very helpful so if he replies I'll pass on the reason for this "Space Oddity".

When you say 'a few years ago' do you mean 6-8 years maybe, as I guess that's when they took it on. If it's more recent it means that their venture has failed and they've had to sell, which would be very sad.

Actually, I did say six or seven years ago, as far as I'm aware it is still thriving, the lady who took it over has a theatrical background and has probably done far better than I would have with it, thus it was meant to be, and I went off in a different direction.

One day I must get round to learning to read.

We have 2 reading lights over the bed head. I think I might have used them a couple of times ever. Who on earth could be bothered with real books, especially on a boat? Surely everyone reads by means of iPads, kindles etc these days? We do have nice dimming LED tape under the gunnels that provides soft bedtime light - that gets used every night.

Sometimes it's good to have a gadget break I s'pose reading spots that can fully swivel could be made to bounce light off the ceiling. I have a 1 watt LED candle lamp in a clip on holder, with a simple shade added, for soft night time light. Supposed to be 'temporary', like all these things are. Attachments:

One of the things which happened when I moved aboard was that I read more, probably because of the power usage of laptop... We never had a TV on the boat (again, partly cos of power) Which helps. All in all I am very happy! Just wish I had more bookshelves. Currently space for maybe 2 dozen paperbacks, a half dozen hardbacks and maybe a dozen larger assorted reference books etc, and a strict one in one out policy!

Crap books make good firelighters, a Kindle doesn't (and is a rather expensive way of going about it too!)

They don't need charging, and I love the feel and smell of them too.
Er, sorry, did I just say that outloud?
