Right, so tomorrow were of on our jollies. up to Newbury.
I've just had a notice and they have finally closed croften top lock. it is currently 46 cm down. pumps are running and they will update the notice Saturday at 10am.
At which point we will be in devizes having just done the flight or just finishing it.
So it maybe a run to croften and then a brave run (for us) down to Bristol. it probaly is the right time to do it. but we would like to head east.
I am letting the crew take the photos as she is much better than I and will update here.
I will try and give an update on the latest state of this canal mainly on hope of more people coming down to say hello.

Enjoy, and keep us updated. The trip to Bristol is a doddle especially as there wonβt be any current on the river.

we're going east but as you say now is the best time to do the avon. so if we become stuck we still have somewhere to cruise to.

arrived at the boat about half six filled with water and loaded up and then went for a quick exit.
passed the last boat and Sam said she was winging that thats not how we exit we do this blah blah blah.
I normally a bit further over for the turn into the lift bridge however the wind caught me a bit and I was a bit over however I made the turn and exited without hitting anyone and no where near her boat.
I hate moving around in the marina. full of pontificating smart arses.
we aimed for the bottom of the flight and an hour and a quarter later we moored beneath the last lock as the moorings at the bottom of caen hill were full.
no issues and stayed dry.
all locks work and water levels are fine.
I only took one picture, jumped back on mid locking and quickly took one. not really interesting.
we passed no one else. but the lady we moored behind had a winge we were too close but her older female "friend" told her off, as she knew there was no where else. I am on the last lock bollards after all.

today we spent a long time at tick over and I thought we were heading east not west. moored boat after moored boat. we were third in the queue for caen hill. and were held up quite a bit. my normally slick crew were bored. took three hours for the main flight and five hours to get to devizes. what slowed us down and demoralised the crew was the weather. we set out in glorious sunshine. that and it was busy we were passing boats coming down pretty much most locks after half way. half way up a storm blew through and jeez did it chuck it down, the wind picked right up and we were soaked. five minutes later and the sun was out. it stayed like this for the rest of the day getting soaked and then roasting in the sun. did not even bother with rain coats. it was so warm. eventually we tied up at all canning VM. and now discussing wether to walk to the pub or not. all locks and bridges work. a lovelly day. and the good news is croften summit has reopened be it on restrictions. although it was pretty overgrown in parts and the canal was reduced to only four metres or so for some distance in places. I know this as we only just passed another NB through one stretch. we then found a new cool for Stabby and Andy to fight over. the day was enjoyed by all. overall including all the locks and rain everyone enjoyed themselves. I may treat them all to a streak.
