Jeff’s friend Pete, who lives in Devizes, said he took his dog for a walk on the towpath today and it was boating mayhem - boats everywhere! But perhaps you managed to miss the worst of it?

But perhaps you managed to miss the worst of it? we went up at 8.30 and cleared the main flight by 11.30. it was the busiest we have seen it. from half way we were pretty much passing boats between most locks.

Today's storm never really materialised, light rain on and off and some places were breezy. it's still warm enough to wear shorts and dident get wet. came across a broken paddle today, the first one. I did get shouted at maybe he was right maybe he was an idiot. probaly a bit pissed I was close to his plastic cruiser. I say cruiser it looked like it was one breeze away from sinking. one of Nicks hippy freinds. he was at the end of a long row of boats and about a metre past his boat was a large thick tree branch with many branches attached. now I didn't want to go into it so went around it. I was about 6 inches away from it and about 2-3 feet away from his boat. no issue about hitting his boat and his boat never moved as I passed it. he told me to drive on the right. twice. I said I was going around that tree. he insisted I should drive on the right. I know it was a bit close but he kept on. I just said whatever and carried on. and then returned to steering down the middle. we got up to croften top lock water levels are a bit down. but we've had a bbq and now we have finished that the sun is out.

we have company on the two mile summit pound with 7 moored boats on it. three feet in front of us.
they did say they can move but there's no where really for them to go forward.
your not meant to use the lock after 6 to help the pumps recover water so they did what we did and stoped at the end.
no issue to be honest. but there drinking champers and haven't offered me any. I was up for going down one lock and mooring on the lock landing as we got here at 5.30 but swimbo wouldent have it.
I could have put myself on MLAT.

well the decision to not lock down and moor below was a good one as this is what we found this morning. a real short pound so ten minutes of running water down resolved the issue enough for us to continue. the plan was to visit the pumping station. however while running water down a hire boat turned up so we locked all the way into hungerford with them. 19 locks and 2 swing bridges nicley done in 6 hours, took the boy for a steak as reward for lock wheeling all the way down. some pounds were overflowing onto the towpaths and most were going over the overflows a couple were quite low. saw loads of workboats so some maintenance is going on. even this which we think is an ex workboat. I should of got a picture of the rear. all in all another great day, a couple of shirt showers but the sun was out the rest of the day. I must admit the views were lovelly day very scenic. and no shouty shouty people either

The shed boat looks like a steel hull someone has knocked up in the garden - I imagine it had a square stern. Good use of space to be fair

Talking of your photos have you got one of the inside of a concrete railway shed? I keep looking at them and being tempted to cross the tracks to check it out but I'm not 'ard enough I want to know if these sheds had stoves in them or open hearths. They have chimneys.

stayed and dud some shopping. went and got water and tried to get in further up where there was less tourists but could not get in close enough.
reversed about 100 metres with moored boats and a hire boat coming the other way, passed all without hitting which impressed myself.
we watched she trip boat go out being pulled by a horse which was nice and just as I was going to get a nice picture of it coming through the bridge a blooming hire boat tried to stop and reversed straight into us. so not only did I not get a photo I had to tidy up from the bump.
all in all a nice day and got to shout at my first speeder😂 it dident bother me but the boat oppersite and a shout so16 I joined in just to do it.
I was only on the centre line at the water point, nearly came off.
no photos as we haven't done anything.
we did wind and cone back up one lock and yet again got on the VM above hungerford lock.
used the washing machine and tumble dryer for the first time and they work. which means we can pack less clothes next time. result.
