Like thebfg we are on hols. First week as per title. Pain in the arse drive to try and avoid the horror that is the A14 in the Huntingdon area on a Friday Afternoon (although a moderately brisk dash down the B660 went some way to dull the pain!) Quick load up of the boat and it was off the short distance to join mouse who had earlier been despatched to the Swan at Littleport to ensure we could get a space next to him if it got busy. Turning onto the main river the sky looked ominous, we had a cracker of a storm in Northamptonshire at 03:00, meaning I has been up since when only prostitutes and policemen officers should be awake Now it was Fenland turn! I Managed to get moored up before the heavens opened, and boy did it go for it! Three bloody leaks after all this hot though, oh well! add it to the list! To the pub! Just as we leave the boat the power goes off, Find mouse in the pub with a beer for himself and none for his companions - no electric means no sale, miserable old bugger! A bit of a wait and the power is back on, hurray! Food and beer consumed and it's back to the boat by 20:45 hmmmm, what's that awful drone I can hear opposite side of the river? It's the narrow boat on the EA moorings who had his engine running when we arrived, exhaust aimed at us and likely to run for some time 👿 nothing for it but to go and ask how long he was likely to run it for, getting an out of routine 4 year old off to sleep was going to be hard work as it was, I could well do without that infernal racket. To be fair matey was pleasant and shut it off sharpish. First time I've had to ask someone to turn their engine off, for a newish boat it must have had a piss poor charging and hot water system to need running as much as it did! Out like a bloody light after my early start! Today we are heading up the Old West to go seal searching 🚢🍻🔨👍

The thing with stationary engine running on EA waters is there are no bylaws prohibiting running between certain hours, instead we rely on the rule of don't be an ignorant selfish cock - only a few fail the test

We'll be passing through Godmanchester on Friday to pick up our post from our son but won't have much time to visit the river this time as need to get back to the boat.

Byelaw 5 states: "No person shall on a recreational waterway or on a bank thereof cause or permit an electric generator or other engine to be operated in connection with any vessel when the same is moored so as to cause disturbance or annoyance to other persons enjoying the amenities of the recreational waterway."
and Byelaw 13 prohibits, in more general terms, any person acting in a manner which prevents another person from enjoying the facilities of a recreational waterway or banks thereof. It's good if a quiet, polite word works but a reminder that there IS a relevant byelaw may be useful in some circumstances. Enjoy the Great Ouse.

Sorry, I should have stated the 8-8 that CART would like people to abide by. Your post is a bit more polite than my don't behave like a dick one The Old West duckweed, Middle Level man and the bloody wind have been a pain this morning, just arriving at Hermatige lock 🚢🍻

Let's hope the wind drops for your approach to Brownshill - that has to be the windiest place on Earth at times!
