Let's hope the wind drops for your approach to Brownshill - that has to be the windiest place on Earth at times! True to form it was windy as hell up there. Safely at the Pike and Eel ππ» Howling Gail predicted for tomorrow late morning so early away and hold up at St Ives for a rest day. I have rowed across that bit of water a few times in my youth.

The thing with stationary engine running on EA waters is there are no bylaws prohibiting running between certain hours, instead we rely on the rule of don't be an ignorant selfish cock - only a few fail the test Not quite right, Gazza. Byelaw 5 states: "No person shall on a recreational waterway or on a bank thereof cause or permit an electric generator or other engine to be operated in connection with any vessel when the same is moored so as to cause disturbance or annoyance to other persons enjoying the amenities of the recreational waterway."
and Byelaw 13 prohibits, in more general terms, any person acting in a manner which prevents another person from enjoying the facilities of a recreational waterway or banks thereof. It's good if a quiet, polite word works but a reminder that there IS a relevant byelaw may be useful in some circumstances. Enjoy the Great Ouse. I need to practice your diplomacy skills, words had with the skipper of an OVRC boat that had been running most of the day in Ely that has sparked up again while we were having dinner out the back - bloody downwind of the smokey thing this time

No one from the OVRC could possibly ever behave like that, surely?

I wouldn't like to comment! Sadly it's a growing trend we see, engine's running to provide for the fridge and a few sinks full of hot Water, it used to exclusively be the preserve of canal dwellers with narrow boats but has now crept into the owners of large Brooms Sancrees etc. Either that or there is an awfully lot if people with shagged batteries about Bring back the days of hot water out of a kettle and flannel washes We economise on hot water by boiling the kettle on the hob for washing up, stretches out the amount of hot water in the 70l calorifier for showers and hand washing etc. Fitting a thermostatic valve to the hot outlet of the calorifier has massively improved how long it stays hot, along with doing a decent job of lagging it. I have never run the engine to charge batteries or get hot water (although a webasto thermotop helps with that too!!) peterboat forgets a 3 way fridge uses 0 amps on gas so is infinitely more social acceptable than running a stinking smoking diseasale engine to keep the tonic water cool. Maybe a solar panel salesman should drop by the OVRC club house with a boot full of panels and controllers at knock down price....

Prop not turned since yesterday morning, enjoying Ely, not enjoying the hot so much!
Off to Littleport to refuel, dump some gear in the car then trundle off to Denver ready for Saturday's assault on the Middle Levels.

Mr Stabby Are you looking at me?! Some of the Muscovy ducks look as though they have been getting it on with the local Mallard population. Not a cloud in the sky. Scorchio!! ShellDrake is for sale.

When I restarted a cooled down hot engine (Gazza can explain Perkins 4-108 Lowline starting procedure on Vanguard!) I decided that the boat needed to be taken down to Ely and back to get a bit more cold into the fridge (3 way, start arguments now!) so I can have a properly cold Grouse and soda nightcap. South of Ely, between old road bridge and new by-pass bridge I spotted a Middle Levels Badger with a lovely Halequin Great Dane sitting regally in the bow. Looked proper snooty!

Enjoyed having Keif as my lodger for the week but now back to normal. OK, Keif didn't complain when I lifted an arse cheek and farted, but back home I can do what I like when I like!
