Which 4G provider is recommended for network coverage on the Warwickshire Ring? We are only in UK for a month (Sept) with 2 weeks canal boat hire, most likely spend the remaining time in London /SE before returning to pay for it all. Looking for PAYG options only as we are not likely to be back until next year.

Our operator in Finland links to EE when we're in the UK.
Mobile phone signal (telephone/mobile data) in the UK is abysmal. In Finland it's good everywhere.
When we went to ask about phone SIM-cards from the EE shop in Banbury three years ago, we asked why there were no other customers in the shop. "Because we're shit," replied the salesgirl.

I’d recommend Three. I think they have the best data coverage in the area. Put it like this, I have experience with Vodaphone and O2, both shit. Not sure about EE. With Three we are very rarely without data although sometimes we have to put a phone in the window and tether to it.

They all vary at different spots on the Coventry, northern oxford and ashby if you head that way.
Three was good when i had it but blind spots at atherstone where i used to moor made me ditch it, i now use Sky which runs on the O2 network seems good all the way through the Coventry corridor.

If you know where you are likely to be mooring you can check the 4 main networks (O2, EE, 3 and Vodaphone) using their coverage checkers. Treat the results as an indication only though.

I don't know if 4G coverage is different to 3G but in the six months I've been cruising this year I only moored at one spot where I couldn't get a signal, that's with a 3 dongle.

4g is faster than 3g, upto 10x In theory. “Up to” being the operative phrase.

I've never tried 4g. 3g seems to be pretty fast to me.

4g is faster than 3g, upto 10x You can notice the difference, up the ashby in my fav spot i struggle indoors, outdoors is ok but slow, shows 3g. Hawkesbury with 4g on the water points is a bit slow, 200 yards back towards nuneaton is a lot faster, on my mooring on the north oxford side its fast. Our phone network is a bis shit in this country compared to others.

Our phone network is a bis shit in this country compared to others. That's a weakness of being an 'advanced' country. You get the technology early. Getting it later results in a better system. Similar with railways innit.

Thanks all - looks like 3 is the way to go. Well for pay as you go u won't get the hassle that contract with 3 can bring... I would never recommend them but others seem to have fared ok.

Its only for the month so PAYG is all,I need, a few years ago I had a EE 'month' contract & didn't realise, that it was a 12 month contract paid monthly luckily they waived the additional months charges when it was apparent we were no longer in the UK. Out here you have pre paid with various top up options or post paid where you get billed monthly, a lot simpler system.

We're with three (Huawei) having previously done O2 and EE.
Rarely cannot get a signal, but that includes occasionally hanging the Huawei outside.
I think it's as good as it gets so far.
