We saw the guy when we last did the Llangollen in about 2013.
He was very pleasant, and I recall on that day he had a pink wheel barrow.
Stuff CWDF, I'm not telling them.
But your post has made me realise we must head up there next spring.
It's been too long since we did it, thanks.

But your post has made me realise we must head up there next spring. It's been too long since we did it, thanks. Yes, all very pleasant. Important to do it on the opposite cycle to the hire boats (i.e. get to Llangollen at the weekend when the hire boats are all back at base changing over). I think the old boy (his name was Ken) is probably dead now, he wasn't in the best of health when we were there and he told us he didn't have too many birthdays left now.

I haven't seen the AnalWorld thread - nor do I want to ....
Ken was my friend - because of that lock. He always "secretly" left me some eggs on my back deck as he helped me through the lock, once meeting me on the way back with a box of quails eggs - just because...
We phoned each other from time to time and remembered each other's birthdays. One Christmas he walked for miles with the most thoughtful presents.
Sadly, he had a stroke and he and his nephew left the smallholding. He went to live in Runcorn with his grand-daughter. I HATE going through that lock now.
Bless you, Ken xxx
