Thought for today: I was a member on Canalworld for 2.5 years before 'the troubles' started. Now I've been a member on Thunderboat for 2.5 years (although, admittedly, I've been in trouble here all the way through!). However, this month is a turning point, the membership of one will be becoming longer than the membership of t'other.

My granddaughters are aged 4 and 7. They regularly read boating forums as they are especially interested in tiller bearings, water pumps, and murdering prostitutes. My daughters are 6 and 8 and they have been exposed to the f and c words since birth. Main example being while in the car waiting for an idiot to work out what to do they get papa (me) saying "when will this fucking cunt deal with it?" Funny thing is that they will come out with swear expressions but very rarely. They are very polite kids and they know that this swearing lark is not something to indulge in all the time. I was brought up as a small child knowing what swearing was but not being "allowed" to swear. And now I swear like a trooper. I bet my kids listening to that will end up swearing a whole lot less than I do. Their mums the same except she swears in French and Arabic.

OK I've bin, read the whole thread, given Rog a green and posted....... Wow.... Good post, Patty. I liked this bit: "Martin used to post lots and he could be quite offensive then he left and over here his language is 'moderated'.. " - which is true. I think, standing from a distance, there are two discussion forums now as regards the inland waterways of England (there's not much of a system in Wales or Scotland), it's just that they have different flavours, but Thunderboat is now established and, I think, the better place, as people here are friendly, and the conversation is unhindered. I don't know of any other canal boating forums - are there any? Comments on other sites, but nothing really to compare with TB and CWDF.

So you can become a super member like Foxy Phil Come on Flappy...
You and I both know the odd word can never make a super member in real life!
Sorry - not been here much lately - and hope I haven't missed too much but wishing you and Chris well.
