What was actually 'wrong' with the design? Not having watched the programme myself. Looks a bit like an American church - corrugated iron? And prone to the wind.

You'd really have to watch the whole episode to see the whole excruciating saga of fuckwittery evolve. However, Googling "Grand Designs Medway eco-barge" should give some pointers.

Regarding it looking like a church, that is what it was known as when it was moored in Hadleigh Ray for a few years. It actually was a handy mark for navigating the Ray, quite missed it when it eventually broke free and ended up on the foreshore in Southend.

About as pointless as an eco fan eco as in that church-boat = ecosystem-friendly eco as in fan = economical (although where that comes from I don't know, we burn the same amount of wood and coal whether it's on top of the stove or not).
