I don't put Vaseline on terminals, never seen the need for it. Whenever I change my leisure batteries I take the starter battery off, clean up the terminals and then give it a good shake, it likes that.

We did use it in the Army and on equipment inspection it had to be cleaned off so the nice officer didnt get dirty/greasy fingers!! It was then reapplied with a soft brush to provide protection and stop green furry stuff on the terminals

Peter now whats happened to your avatar?..where there was a square box is now nuffin...
I cannot comment on the use of vaseline on batteries as I only use it to put on the dry bits of the interior stone walls to make them look better....vaseline is so versatile but not as good as soft beeswax polish on dry bits

The one occasion I decide to comment on a manly engine hole type thread ... and I get it wrong doh! I still don't use it, but check the batteries regularly, topping up as and when, and have never seen any build up on the terminals. In light of the advice above, in future ... obviously ... I 'll not post on technical threads Rog When it comes to manly (engine) holes, clearly you are inexperienced. Or so you pretend! In view of your post on the 'Man hugs' thread, I'd already made a mental note to stand well back on our next meeting. I now know you use any excuse to whip your trousers off ... use vaseline regularly ... only hug those you wish to shag ... and have an unhealthy interest in 'manly engine holes'. And some would say this place can be shallow Hope your life's settled down and back under control. I guess it is as you're boating. Rog

The question arises, if you have oily hands do you need vase line, in whatever situation?

Well, thanks for nothing everyone - some say slap it on liberally, some say don't use it at all! Now I have a brand new unopened tin of vaseline - who here wants it?

You know I'm right Rog To be fair, your advice is spot on for Mr Stabby he saves a thumb full of Vaseline as he knackers his batteries so quickly they don't have time for the terminals to corrode. It's not all boolean - 1 or 0, black or white, yes or no, pass or fail, go or no go. It just depends on context. peterboat and JohnV exotic batteries for life definitely would benefit from a smear of lube. Telemachus has let us all know his preference regarding Vaseline - and that's before we get to the bloody batteries
