Why are boaters so keen on angle grinders? We borrowed one once, when we were in a dry dock 2 years ago, and one that worked with mains electrickery. And I think we could have managed without it, just hand scrapers for a bit of scraping. Angle grinders are essential bits of kit. In the right hands they are a versatile tool - cutting, grinding, sanding and derusting, removing seized nuts, bolts and bearings are another vital use, you can add tile cutting to the list too. In the wrong hands they are a lethal bit of kit. They are also useful for nipping off padlocks tat you may not have access to the key - cordless grinders are better than 240v ones as you dont need to lug the genny to the lock that needs removing.....

Just get yerself an electric drill, Donkey. Here's one: www.ebay.co.uk/itm/BOSCH-680W-240V-CORDED-KEYLESS-CHUCK-HAMMER-DRILL-BRAND-NEW-FOR-SALE/283227507505?hash=item41f1accb31:g:F7gAAOSwzHNb0ZMi:rk:6:pf:0 You can get attachment for sticking on cutting discs - I know, we have two.* You can use your electric drill with a carbide sanding disc on, and it will do just as good or better than an angle grinder. *why would you want to cut anything? We haven't needed a cutting disc in 4 years of boating. Use a can opener like everyone else, you dozy git.

All the gear and no idea? I need to learn how to do some things myself and I learn best when I can actually have a go rather than all theory. Yes thats just wot I do... and if its ok for you it don't matter wot others think

No, nothing like an electric drill, electric drill attachments are for DIY'ers that dont have the skills to use the correct tool for the job and like spending hours fruitlessly doing a job a grinder would take minutes to achieve.

Good for removing mattresses from the prop too. The waterproof ones are hard to get hold of though I bet Mr Stabby would have been glad of the use of one when he had his mattress encounter on the Rochdale.

Can do all that with an electric drill. Plus, an electric drill can drill holes (an angle grinder can't), and an electric drill can be attached to a pump to suck out water from a water tank or fuel from a fuel tank.
