Black Horse is an overpriced shit hole! Navigation has been pimped up beyond belief We wont stop at either now! Strangely outside the new flats at Wolverton is OK and very close to the station. Next time you come up the arm you will be able to do it single handed without tying up for locks, its easy once you know how. That's a shame on both counts. Barley Mow and the Galleon it is then

I've never been to any pubs there but I like the idea of bat out of hell in Blisworth tunnel I had Stairway to heaven at 11 and a Fairline 20 at V Max through the tunnel - not for long though - had to drop the throttle before we rolled up the tunnel wall such was the wave it set up! Volume stayed at 11 at all times though πΈππππππ’π»

I'm quite familiar with the pubs mentioned from a previous canal rental holiday.... (although glad to see not too much has changed over the years)! Looking forward to a takeaway from the Spice tomorrow night, and Bat out of hell will be playing at some point tomorrow. Oh you swine! More than A tiny bit jealous! The Spice was excellent last time we ate there. Make sure Meatloaf is at volume 11 through the tunnel - bollocks to Flincher and his mates Pop in to the Boat for a beer, it's Ok in there and has more about it than the Navigation. We are out with mouse trip up River to Ely, lunch in Appleyard and Lincoln old gaff then back for an oil change and decommission the domestic water ready for the onset of the Arctic blast naughtyfox sends our way. Are you going to change all the cables at the same time as the oil?

Blisworth tunnel with no tunnel light just cabin lights and open curtains is good. I did do it once with no lights on at all but there was some banging about to be fair.

Has the fragrant Kathryn not yet offered you a cup of tea? Exotic pleasures await you.... perhaps!

Can you believe that in August it was already -1C here? And this morning..... +9C !! (a couple of weeks ago it was -14C, and about 4 weeks ago there really was snow on the roads, and black ice has already had one of our buses in the ditch). I blame Leonardo diCaprio for causing Global Warming, jetting around to pick up his silly awards:

Are you going to change all the cables at the same time as the oil? As it happens mouse is likely to have a new set of cables and possibly the steering cable when he lands on my doorstep next Easter. The throttle cable has an awkward set in it, easy to do in the workshop, not so easy miles from anywhere with only a pair of pliers and mole grips to do the job! We don't do breaking down do we mouse ? (I'm not going to mention running out of diesel at Hermitage lock as that doesn't really count..... )

Why would he want to descend the Northampton arm and go back up it anytime soon? Just think of the pleasures that are waiting. GU south up the Thames then the Oxford then etc etc Pleasures?? Wall to wall towpath shufflers on the GU screeching slow down when you pass on tickover! Locks that don't work, CaRT mismanagement, its hatefull Only 4 months to go until we leave from Arm End down the flight, unlikely we will return and if in a moment of madness we do we wont be going south!

To be fair my rose tinted specs are almost a decade old ! I haven't been past Berkamsted since 2010. Mind you it was a getting bad even then. Still a lovely bit of canal though. I was interested you mentioned coming back up the rothersthorpe locks.

I had a lunatic near the railway bridge in March shout slow down at us on our way home, I absolutely could not have gone any slower - it's shallow as shit there anyway, I couldn't have gone quickly even if I had wanted to. I Had enough time passing the twat to demonstrate I was in tickover and remonstrate with his potty mouth Mrs about her language. Wasn't till we got to PYC and found out a friend of ours on a Seamaster 23 had also been shouted at to slow down - only difference was they were being towed behind their friends Narrowboat, the steerer of which wasn't subjected to the same foul mouthed tirade as our poor friend who had no control over his speed - what with his outdrive being bollocksed I felt no end better about my run in with the self appointed speed Nazis after that conversation.

OK so you are going to turn round and leg it back up north once you get near sewer lock and the awful cc residential boats start building up. Or will you be able to get into London go out the thames and follow JohnV example taking your ummm err its a narrow boat up the east coast. Anyway probably better the other way round.
