Guess part of it could be the social element as over the way they'd plan strategy for months pre event. I went to view once but it poured and I got lost in Brum so for me a non event. I did consider having a go but realised tad ambitious as solo and i didn't really know anyone to join with as they all seemed to be teams. Anyway suspect not really for me..I preferred a chug along at my own slow speed watching wildlife. I would have crewed for you! Ive always wanted yo do it! and I cook! That would have been fab..maybe we should sign up for a team..I can't cook, struggle with locks if they r heavy but I can drive/steer/whatever oh and I don't take up much space

Do you really think a disparate group of bigoted sweary chip shouldered weirdos could coexist on a narrowboat for 30 hours without killing each other? Can I watch please? Maybe we should have a sweepstake for the last person standing? they dont call me the mighty atom for nothinhhg! Baldrick: They don't call him Clever Jake for nothing, you know. Edmund: Well, they don't call me Clever Ja-- oh, I see. So what does this Witchsmeller man look like?

I must confess a few years back when I was fitter, I did consider doing it solo in Shapfell ..... just for the honour of GRP

I must confess a few years back when I was fitter, I did consider doing it solo in Shapfell ..... just for the honour of GRP Hmmm well last year that nice chap (.... can’t immediately remember his name, Kustomcut username) chugged his grp boat into one of the Perry Barr locks during the Challenge and it promptly impaled itself on something and sank in about 2 minutes. So I’m not sure GRP and the nether reaches of the BCN go together well!

So, there's another strategy, Maggers follows behind in his tupperware, scupper it in a vital lock once the team are through.

Shapfell is an Ormelite cruiser nearly 50 years old .... they had different ideas about build quality then ..... not saying it couldn't happen .... but then it could also happen to a narrowboat with a few years of wastage

Either my memory is failing (again), or this little blue double ender is something you've been dreaming of. Peter.

You posted a photo of it on here a while ago. 14ft GRP blue day boat with a cuddy cabin, unusual canoe stern and an outboard well.
At the time I quoted Rockwell's "somebody's watching me" song.
