II agree, just over 200 quid for a running bike with decent brakes has to be a bargain. Report back here when you realise you can't manhandle it into the well deck I probably could using the plank, the seller got it out of the van easily enough, although I'd be more inclined to get a length of steel channel bolted onto the bow and run it up on to that. It was dark when it arrived and raining heavily so I haven't really had a chance to work things out yet. But even if it isn't practical to keep it on the boat then I reckon it's worth the money just for a bit of fun, and as a Y-reg it's never going to lose money. It'll only be £100 to tax and insure it too so it's cheap back-up transport. Some folk cut the spot welds off of the cone in the exhaust pipe and take it out, remover the carburettor inlet restrictor, take the spacer out of the variator and fit a new main jet and then they do 45mph but as that's illegal I wouldn't dream of doing that.

As long as you're not involved in a crash, you'll be fine after that bit of "fine tuning", as if you are, your insurance won't pay a penny. If you want to go faster, you'll be better selling this one with a profit, and then buy something that was ment to be going faster to start with. Peter.

No, I seriously wouldn't bother derestricting it although it can be done legally if I was to take a CBT, ride on L plates and declare it to the insurer.

One of those little cranes like johns got will sort you out for lifting it on and off. I keep thinking of getting something similar but with big wheels.

Oh I see. You were on about the scooter. I must say big wheels do seem sensible. Telemachus, while obviously a bit of a nuisance, does seem to be a bit of an authority on these man type things. I noted that he found the Honda 50 step through was good. I assume this is the 50cc version of the C90. Happy to be corrected. I think its one of the ones with bigger wheels.

I'd get a Lucas, other makes are available, swing lift, the one I had lifted well over half a ton. Cheap and 12v.

Swing lift. Penny hydraulics is the same item I believe.
Eta a 500kg one must be quite a serious bit of gear needing some hefty mounting brackets.

Here in all its glory we have my Vespa ET2, aka "The Fanny Magnet" as seen this afternoon. I've bashed out the numerous dents in the side panels and front fairing and used a small amount of filler to restore the shape. I've also scraped off the rust rashes and treated them with Kurust. I know the paint is the wrong shade, it's just an old can I had knocking around to keep rain water off of the filler and primer, as both are porous. I have a rattle can of the correct paint, Piaggio Midnight Blue on order. I changed the spark plug and it's running really well, just a little bit rich maybe, but I can soon sort that out. I've given it a deep clean, including taking lenses off and cleaning behind them, and I've glued up and put the merest scrape of filler in a crack in the stop/tail light lens, just so there is absolutely no white light showing to the rear. I still have to change the punctured rear wheel, and I've ordered a Dremel-a-like off of ebay to cut off the exhaust system mounting bolts which are seized solid, and I'll paint the exhaust with some stove paint which I have knocking about before I put it back on. I'm hoping to take it for MOT sometime in January. Obviously it won't be mine for very long, Dickhead Dunkley or his barrister will be riding around on it soon when it is seized as part of the libel settlement. But it's a fun little project for now.
