Met him a few times and on one occasion had far too many beers with him... A man with a great smile, twinkle in his eyes and that unmistakable frozen ginger beard - RIP.

I've climbed to the summit of Mount Snowdon. It was absolutely exhausting, waiting for that little train to turn up.

Not a celebrity but my best friend and inspiration John Hargreaves died 9 years ago on Ben Alder. As usual he wanted to get ahead of the rest of us to get to the bothy first, strode off into the fog, and off a 100 foot cliff. Without him I'd never have had the courage to re train as an English teacher and then have the experiences I had living and working abroad. And quite possibly, I wouldn't have the active life I have now, I'd still be stuck in some pub somewhere or in some dull routine. For someone 20 years younger than me, just amazing. Miss you mate.

I have watched the movie in which Mr Snowden stars.
"Disillusioned with the intelligence community, top contractor Edward Snowden (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) leaves his job at the National Security Agency. He now knows that a virtual mountain of data is being assembled to track all forms of digital communication -- not just from foreign governments and terrorist groups, but from ordinary Americans. When Snowden decides to leak this classified information, he becomes a traitor to some, a hero to others and a fugitive from the law."
