hi. You mean Scotland? It looks lovely up there. I heard there had been some problems with bridge maintenance making cruising more awkward.
Would love to do the Caledonian one day.

Hello magnetman.
Yes I'm on the Lowland Canals in Scotland.
There have been quite a few problems with Scottish Canals but hopefully after new management, extra funding and a kick up the arse by the government things are looking rosier for 2019
And the Caledonian Canal is well worth a visit

No, but if you turn up at a party and say you know Billy you'll normally get in

I was just wondering how it would work if one were to have a boat delivered by road say in March with the intention of spending the spring summer and autumn on Scottish waterways then remove the vessel back down South at the end of the "season". Would this sort of behaviour attract considerable mooring costs? I mean for an off grid boat with no intention of ever stopping at a marina or other "serviced" moorings. Are there free moorings for people out boating and what are the time limit arrangements ?

Hi from me. We did the Forth and Clyde from (and including) the wheel to Applecross basin and back (short break). It is a really nice canal but I have to say, having to get SC to operate everything was a Pita and means you are on a schedule instead of being able to relax. This was the main reason why, despite living in Aberdeen, when we got our own boat we decided to keep it in Englandshire.
And then SC seemed to go downhill. But glad to hear things are looking up a bit.
Iain_S of this parish (and the other channel) is a Lowland Canals boater (as well as having a boat in Englandshire).

Good afternoon to you too. I also have a hankering to do the Caledonian, I'd have to hire though.

There are visitor moorings, some are better maintained than others.
You'd need to choose which canal you'd want to visit as only the Union and Forth&Clyde are connected.
As for costs, as far as I'm aware it would just be your licence but I would check T&C on Scottish Canals website . Most visitor moorings are either 24 or 48hrs only.
Sorry if that's a bit wooly, boats permanently on SC waters have to have a home mooring
Just realised I should have quoted you magnetman
