Its shit!! their should be a minimum number every day in the house I'm really beginning to belive that having a professional political class is counter to the smooth running of democracy. We should have citizen politicians drawn from the population like jurors, maybe they could stay for a year then have to leave parliment. Why do we need so many mp's and lords?

I agree with you Kris and it should be party neutral instead of arguing with each other like children they should be working to keep the country running well

You wou d proberly need some independant mechanism for public oversight for this to work but it could be worked out. Let's be honest a system that took members of the general public as mp's couldn't do any worse than the system we have now.

Well it is only just after their Christmas break..perhaps we expect too much of them ..that post the season of eating all the rich foods and drinking perhaps to excess they should be expected to debate meaningfully the plight of millions who will never taste the type of fare they had over the 'Season of Plenty' ....

this shows how many mp's care about the people living in poverty in this country.https://www.thelondoneconomic.com/news/14-mps-turn-up-to-discuss-un-report-on-14-million-people-living-in-poverty/08/01/?fbclid=IwAR05RQKCBBCB5kSdGGAAlk6HqmW-ofIYkynbVhpBed_BkIqh-H8sPwuPuRc I'm not defending them, heaven forbid! However there was an MP on Radio 4 just before Christmas explaining how her job worked. She said she got lots of requests (read demands) from her constituents to attend meetings, sub committees etc on issues relevant to her constituency or an issue on which she campaigned when she was elected. problem is that without a Tardis it is impossible to be in more than one place at one time so even though a debate/ meeting/ whatever is incredibly important if it doesnt fit with her agenda she can't attend.

Those poor mp's. Maybe we should start a crowd funding page for them?

If I was one of them, I wouldn’t want to be seen to give it any credibility. As to the adversarial nature of current politics, I agree.
